Alpine refurbished price is INCREASING.

A buddy just told me that Alpine is increasing their refurbishing service from $158 to $358 this week.

His drive went bad and had called to inquire about the service.

YIKES!!! i hope my navi drive doesnt go bad

Really, damn I've done the same by putting it off, but if they do raise the price than I better call and send it off this week. Hoping they haven't increased the fee already.

EDIT:
I just called right now, the new price is in effect. So its $358 now. Grrr!!! How much do new drives run for?

My navigation no longer works, its been like this well over 6mos. wow! looking back its been awhile since it was working. Anyways.

Symptoms for mine:
turn car on, splash screen appears, than goes to that warning message. ~ the OKAY button no longer appears.

A few times I have started the car and the screen would keep cycling through, splash/warning, splash/warning etc. Then just stay at the Warning message.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cables where the Navi dvd drive is with no luck. I tried ejecting my DVD disc, its stuck inside.

Everything else works perfectly, except the navigation function. Guess I should add that to my list of summer projects.

Might want to send it away considering the price of a new unit:

39540-SEP-405 ACURA TL NAVIGATION DVD UNIT (ALPINE) 2004 TL 3704.67 2778.50

$358 still sounds like a good deal. As they are having a difficult time selling the updated DVD's I guess they decided to jack up the price on the repaired or refurbished unit.

Haha, guess that makes sense. It sounded at first to me like tree nav was acting strange, but I suppose the nav not booting up would be a pretty good indication, haha. I'm hoping that if I end up with any issues its before my wrap warranty ends. That would make up half the cost of it right there.

Mine was refurbished at Alpine 2 summers ago. I understand one of the things they're doing (for whatever reason) is replacing the power supply on every one that comes in.

That's absolutely nuts. Two years ago I had my alpine head unit with navigation refurbished for $99.

I wonder how complex the repair is, this would be a good market for someone to get into. Although I bet alpine holds the replacement parts hostage.

all i know is it has something to do with a mechanism inside the unit. whatever it is, it scratches the face of the nav disc and over time...makes the disc unreadable (hence the disc error message that pops up on the screen). so while the disc is spinning at a fast rate inside the nav drive, it gets scratched and scratched over and over again.

they probably just adjust something inside the drive. so that it doesnt scratch the disc.

My buddy has an 05 TSX that had this happen. His disc would work in my car, and my working disc would get the "check disc" in his car, so there's something else that goes out also.

EVERYTHING is going up. Some of the replacement interior pieces I bought just a couple years ago have gone up by 1000%. Look at any common wear item and the prices have at minimim tripled over the years.

The $358 price has been confirmed as I was putting mine off for some time. Bummer, but there is really nothing else out there to replace with without undertaking a major overhaul of the system. What sucks is once you pull that joker out, you better know all your presets and stuff as I noticed it doesn't display on the heads up screen anymore. If anyone has some other suggestions, please advise....

for $358, it's ALMOST a blessing. You COULD get an aftermarket monitor, custom the bezel and roll an nice monitor headunit with RCA outs and get REAL GOOD nav.

And now with gas needlessly going back up and the massive drought throughout 3/4 of the country about to send food prices skyrocketing, we're headed for some deep do-do.

Does anyone know of a way to allow for the touchscreen functionality without having a functioning DVD navi?

Basically I don't care that the navi is not working, but I want to be able to continue to use the touch screen for XM, Radio, etc. Audio is working fine for those; just don't have functioning screen.

I am on the fence about paying the $358 and wondering if there is a hack that would get the touch screen working for non nav functions.

^crazy

i think it's absurd that they charge US $500 to fix something that is defective through no fault of our own.

makes sense!

That is just ridiculous. Our NAV just died a few days ago. Now we have grey snowy vertical lines that flash.

I just connected with Alpine's CEO on Linkedin. If I'm going to complain, let's start at the top!!!

I refuse to pay $470 to fix this problem.

The nav in my wife's MDX died about two days after we bought it used from the dealer. I was putting off the repair because $360 wasn't something I wanted to pay for something we don't use too often but to hear it's gone up again makes me want to vomit. Dafuq?

Only 2 days after you bought it from the dealer? Take it back and let the dealer have it fixed, AT THEIR EXPENSE!

The vehicle was used and purchased in Florida. Navi broke on our way back to Michigan. Dealer gave us the finger. Would have expected better from Courtesy Acura.
