WTF is wrong with acura?

Been reading through the forums and was really interested in buying this car. I have 17k saved up and already got pre-approved from capital one for the rest.

So I was talking to my dealer today that had the car i had ordered. A Black/black 04' TL w/ navi. I was talking to him about coming down on price(he quoted me at 33995) and he stated, "I don't negotiate". So i got my deposit and left.

I've been calling dealerships trying to find a deal and all they will give me is 1800 off msrp(at the most). Am i mistaken, or aren't the 05's coming out in a week or two? I understand its a hot car, but come on.... Such bull*hit, i've given up on buying this car and will not be purchasing a car, because this car dealer has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll just save my money and ride the bus.

Almost made it to the owners club, but i got shafted.

So you are blaming Acura for making a great car that is in high demand? You should be mad at the dealers instead I guess.

Find another dealer in your area if possible. There is no reason for them not to come come down on the price, unless they are the only game in town. If you can find the car for $1000-$1500 less it's worth the ride.

The dealer is either arrogant and has a standard and bottom line that he NEVER drops below (I am in a similar situation, I am a real estate agent and my company is known for getting high commission and turning away deals that arent on the high end where we like) OR he is a small time dealer and just doesnt buy the volume of cars like many big dealers do and really cant negotiate much.

I know my dealer I am buying the car from ( put a deposit tonight!!! ) can negotiate but I had another guy tell me he would love to get my business but no matter how hard he tried he cant match the deal i go and he really is shocked I got the deal I got.

So who knows, maybe try going out of state? I wouldnt give up yet, I gave these dealers hell the past 3 weeks, just keep trying.

"What is wrong with this Acura DEALER?" might have been a better title for this thread

Why not just wait and get the 05 at list? That way you are driving a new car for a lot longer. You will take a bit hit on the 04, unless there is a discount for end of season. Besides the O5 has the better tires.

WTF is wrong with you ???

I should go to the store I tell the guy to F**k off because he don't want to give me 50% off.

Maybe you should lower your expectations and think that the price you should pay is MSRP and that $1800 off is a good deal.

if your were buying a Chrysler I could understand. Acura doesn't have 2000 friken days of excess inventory laying around. Try another dealer, it worked for me. but that was when the 04's first came out and the dealers didn't know how hot the car was really going to be.

you may get lucky and pick up an 04 for some $$ of invoice a few months after the 05's are out, but I doubt ther'll be anything left.

you choice,

try going to them with a price ur comfortable with. Just say look I want this price for this car and I will walk out the door with it. That usually gets them motivated. A dealer will usually work with you on it if he thinks you will buy it quick.

Economics, supply vs demand...

Is there anything wrong with the dealer or is it more an issue of regional supply and demand?

There are 3 Acura dealers in the Twin Cites area, one of which is an exclusive Acura dealer.

There are a lot of factors that can determine regional selling prices but allocations, available inventory, and demand are the biggies. If some dealers are giving $1500 - $1800 discounts that may very well be because supply and demand in that area aren't well matched and they have excess inventory to get rid of. If demand is high and inventories are tight then the motivation for discounting, even on an '04, is going to be very low.

Being that you're in Blaine you might consider taking a little tour on Sunday and see for yourself what the inventory levels are at the 3 dealers. If TL's equipped like the one you were looking at are scarce on the lots that will be an indicator of why the dealer in question is taking the hard line with you. Also, the dealer may very well have a customer or two waiting that will take the car at that price so they aren't going to budge on the price because they don't have to.

You do have the option of checking dealers in other areas and going through one of the big buying services to find a better price.

I'm agree with the other recommendations that you should look in other areas. There are many on this board who've gotten a deal over the 'net and driven (or flown) to the dealer they purchased from, then driven back.

Some dealers are crap. You simply need to find one that's willing to work with you.

BTW, $1800 off MSRP is not a bad deal for this car. (I was one of the first to own the car and paid MSRP as a result, so ANYTHING off seems a good deal... )

$1800 off is not a really bad deal for a Navi in a popular color, however the law of supply and demand prevails if all the dealers in your area are discounting about the same. Get them to throw in extras like protection package stuff to sweeten the deal.

How far are you willing to travel and how much is your time worth to save a little more? These issues should be weighed heavily before you go flying off 1000's of miles away to buy the car. I prefer paying just a little more than the best price many miles away to do business with a regional dealer, especially if there's a problem later.

I got a great deal in San Antonio, TX

Southern California has way too much demand for these cars. They put you on a list and say we'll call you IF we get the model/color you want. I waited 5 weeks for, with no luck in San Diego, CA and when I was in San Antionio on a short visit, I went to Gunn Acura who had the exact model/color that I wanted. I saved $2000 (nearly 6 weeks ago) and was treated like a king. Gunn Acura in San Antionio is awesome, plus you get to have a nice long drive home to really get to know your car!

There are a couple of things that you have to understand. Acura does not do rebates or anything of the like so that the re-sale value is not affected as much. For example, if you want to buy a new Tahoe now, i bet that you could get around 5-10 g's off cause it is an '04 model, but in doing this, the re-sale of that vehicle just hit the fan cause why buy used when you can get new for only a little more??? Also, Acura does not have the huge amount of negotiating room that the domestics have.

So, in a nutshell, be glad that you got $1,800 off the sticker cause that is a damn good deal.

update

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I got my TL last week for 34k... From the SAME dealership, but i went through a different sales person. The original salesperson i went to was the internet manager, but the regular salesman i went to no questions asked gave me 1470 off of msrp. LOVE the car 05' NBP AT w/navi.
