Maybe a new thread with all the pics cleaned up on the first page? That'll make things a lot easier for users to find.. I find it hard to pick out pictures in the 10 pages.

Yeah I think this needs to be garaged too. (if other less-deserving threads belong there it dosen't make sense)

I have those piaa bulbs. They're nice accept for they're blue when off, and it looks tacky like everyone said. I hope autolumination will make some true 921 smt tower bulbs.

Kennedy: if you're talking about the "Silver Chrome Super White" bulb at autolumination.com with the blue then chrome coated 921 bulb for $2.99...don't bother. I've already tried those. They are SUPER DIM!!! They don't give off the blue during the day obviously with the chrome coating but you can't see jack behind you at night you with two coats of coloring. You've spent enough money...don't waste any more on those!!!

My Comparison I thought someone may find this a good comparison.

First - light output from direct replacement

is socks compare to 194 SMT Tower

so, I didn't make a picture, but with PIAA

194 SMT Tower on left, PIAA on right
from far away

and close

PIAA is winner on light output, but with the stock --

PIAA on left, stock on right

Stock is winner on light output (I'm just wanna see around, when backing up)

So any other bright light bulbs for back up?

Serious question though... which bulbs did you guys put in your doors? Same "zeros"? Or did you end up with something brighter? http://autolumination.com/194.htm which one off this page?

Ty for the replies.

One thing I noticed, I went from Zero's to Fours like Kennedy and the slot where the bulb fits will be loose, as the ZERO's are kinda fat. But if you go from OEM bulbs to Four's I do believe you will be okay.

This was all mentioned but if you do decide to upgrade go with the Fours before going with the Zero's. Even though they are spendier.

Which you ones do you want to test?
Me please...

Let's just say that I have done it.... and it works like a charm....

Insane when people see the parking lights/signal on... then ask "what do you do if the cops stop you???? and you don't have amber to signal...."

Then I hit the hazard switch....

I forgot my camera when I did the actual install... let's just say that I used "jptl04" idea (method) for the widening (soldering iron) of the socket on the headlight and the ol' school method for the placement and sealant (hot silicone gun & stick). It took alot of patience to achieve... at the end I used a compressor with a blow tip to losen any debris that might have fell in and a high powered vacuum to suck any out of it...

I'll take picks for you guys soon... I will create a new thread... there will be no DIY because I didn't have a camera during the install...

Do the right up. The best time to modify the housing would be during clearing.

Absolutely, the best time to do this will be during the clearing process... remember to check the function of the switchback bulb before sealing 'cause I had major issues with them making proper contact with the factory socket... (the wire leads were too flat)...

I just installed the 194 supernova from autolumination for my license plate last night (only one bulb in the 2nd gen) and i'm very impressed. These are by far the brightest and i've tried about 5 different bulbs.

I read post #111 (where Kennedy posts his test results) as well as quite a few other pages. But now as the thread has become 11 pages long, I am getting lost and confused.

So if someone could sum it up for me, that would be great.

I am looking to do a complete LED conversion for all my interior lights. Which bulb is recommended and where can I buy it? I was trying to find Zeros on http://www.superbrightleds.com but I can't seem to find the right bulb.

If I clear my headlights, will I need to change the current bulb, if so, which led is recommended and where can I buy it?

From what I have read, #5 from Kennedy's test is best for the reverse tail lights. Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yo Kennedy,
Any chance one of these flasher modules are compatible with the TL? It would be better than putting in those load resistors wasting energy and heat...Not to mention a 1 time installation under $20.

I gotta tell ya, I've thought about it... but never explored it. Just gotta pop the hood and find the flasher relay and compare.

After a forum search I found that it seems like the flasher is near the under-dash fusebox. In 1 thread a member said he was going to use that EP34 flasher but he never posted a follow-up on it. I don't know where it could be used, but it's worth exploring.

hey guys did a search and didnt really find the answer...Im confused. I checked out the Sylvania website and it says I need a 921 bulb for the backup and 168/194 for the license plate. Are 921 bulbs the same as 194 ? Or better yet..what exactly do I need for the backup lights ?

Thanks..really confused.

I installed the flasher in my 2G TL. It worked fine but I had to remove the outer case to make it fit, so the turn signal sound is slightly louder than normal. I have had it for over a year now with no issues.

921 and 194 fit into the same socket. I think one of the differences is form factor, 194 is a smaller bulb. You'll see 6leds being 194 and 9leds being 921. 9Led 921's will fit into the license, but 12Led 921's wont.

Lee's right... 194 and 921 are interchangeable. 921 is traditionally a larger higher wattage bulb.

Sorry lee...

Again, as i stated in my review, those 6 and 12 clusters are doo doo.
I reccomend the #4 "supernova's for the license plate, the #5 SMT towers for the reverse led, and the zeros from superbrightled for the interior.

^you might be better off with HIDs, they are cooler than halogens, LEDs i doubt they make for foglights, and if they did, they would only be for looks since LEDs usually light a very small area...

Talking

This thread is phenomenal. As I read through every question I came up with was answered subsequently. I have the led that Kennedy recommends for the license plate on my 2nd gen and have been using it without issue for quite some time. I am really curious to hear more on the turn signals. I have cleared headlights and have leds for the marker lights but my signal bulbs are still the crappy "dipped in chrome" setup.

The switchbacks aren't a big issue for me since I cut the running wire on my 1157 socket so that those bulbs only flash and do not run when the parking lights are on. Then below the signal only bulbs are the running bulbs which are 168/194 leds.

I'm thinking of switching the current leds I have in the running lights to be the Zero led that Kennedy recommends since they are more of a pure white. I have 6000K Phillips HIDs and the current running lights are slightly more blue than the headlights themselves. Could result in a pefect match.

I agree with the developing consensus that the reverse lights are best left stock. They are on for such a short amount of time, and even shorter if you consider the true usage period being at night, that I'd rather be able to use them most effectively during the few minutes a month it adds up to.

Again, definitely curious on the led signals.

That's the reason this forum is so awesome and I am such a regular poster. The only forums I've been on that are comparable are the Corvette forums, the BMW E46fanatics and E34 bimmernut forums.

I have also been on the Mercedes E-class, Lexus ES350 and Jaguar forums......they all SUCK!!! A bunch of people with a lot of money and so little know how. (and no sense of humor may I add!) We have some true enthusiasts here that are real geniuses and know what they're talking about.

Have you tested #2? I may have overlooked but haven't seen anything on it. I'm curious how it works as a signal in terms of brightness.

My only complaint is that from the probably 5 or 6 orders I've made now, I've had to send back two bulbs because they were defective when the arrived. I always had to pay for postage to send it back. Isn't it a little unfair that I have to pay for postage to return the bulbs when they sent me the defective one? Anyway I just wanted to see what the life on these bulbs are before I go complain to them for a replacement. I'll probably have to pay for shipping to return it again.

ok sorry everyone..false alarm!! i went to take out my broken supernova after i posted above only to find that all i had to do was jiggle it and it came back on. looks like the LED is still good. don't know why it did that cause it wasn't really all that loose to begin with when i first touched it. i have to say these leds with their single thin wire prongs are quite sensitive to movement...very touchy. it's not just these supernova's but most of the LEDs that i've bought between autolumination and superbrightleds. i guess the moral of the story is....jiggle first...then complain...haha! anyway that's all folks!

Hello,
i am getting ready to order the light. However i have one question before i order. Will i get in trouble with the policy by replace the reverse to #5 tower 194? WIll it be too bright and the Color of white? Does the reverse light has to be yellow?
