I think I ordered both reverse light candidates. You can either order one of the same ones I did, Or wait for my review.
Is there another you'd like to try?

remove the liner on the trunk lid. There should be about 12 clips and 2 rubber inserts that areon the edge of the trunk lid. Insie, you will see everything for the lights.

I'm interested in using these as brake lights (in red obviously) but I haven't found anyone willing to pony up the cash (myself included) on the off chance that they will be at least as bright as the stock incandescents...Seeing as you have already bought these, do you think they are bright enough for use as brake lights?

If you are talking about the Brake lights on a 3rd Gen TL, they are already LED Based. Only the Backup lights, license plate lights and flashers in the back are filament type bulbs. For the Front, the corner light for parking/flash are also filament type bulbs.

Guys, I'm still looking to replace the crappy silver off/orange on turn-signal bulbs I put in my headlights after clearing and blackening them. Will these LEDs still require a huge resistor if I want to use them as turn-signal bulbs?

Yes... any LED cluser will require an LED resistor wired inline to prevent the "rapid flasher". There's no answer to thsi other than to add resistors or replace the flasher relay with a modded one (which I don't think anyone has tried). It's not a big deal though... The problem is the best white/orange led is too large to actually fit throught the OEM bulb hole.

At this point, I wouldn't mind if it was orange/orange... But so far there is no bright-enough LED flasher which fits through the OEM bulb hole?

i can vouch that superbrightleds has very good customer service

Question LED Brightness.......

Great info guys. I'm about to make this switch. I wanna buy the 1W blue LEDs for the trunk, domes, front doors and 1W LEDs for the reverse and license plate. These would work fine in terms of fitment right? Also how do the 1W LEDs compare to the 6LED bulbs I have now brightness-wise(sp)? Lemme know - thanks..... love this forum!

pop the center of the clip up with a very small screwdriver or something similar. You dont have to remove the rubber inserts, the trunk liner will slip over the top of them.

Good news...

LEDs are in.
Now that it's thawing out outside, I'll try to throw these in and snap a few photos. Hang in there.

So what have decided to get for the back-up lights. I 'm interested in getting one if it's so much brighter than the stock lights.

50 degrees this weekend. I promise to get the testing done Friday/Saturday night.

The one on the far left is the "switchback", I'm desperate to make that my front running light.

TESTED... We have a winner!

First, Let me set up the test:

See this LED in LeeDog's hand (from www.superbrightleds.com 1W)?

I have those all over my car... interior, license plate, and reverse lights. For reference, here's what the license plate looks like with those leds:

Lets call that LED "Zero" for reference, as it's what we're comparing.

I found these new leds from autolumination and decided to try them out, it only took a month to get it done, sorry for the delay. See below:

Let's number these LEDS 1-5, from left to right
1) The switchback, it won't fit anywhere without a dremel. I'll do that when I clear the headlights
2) LED towers for rear turn signals... I'll test these at a later date.
3) Tested as reverse lights runner up
4) Tested as license plate illumination
5) Also tested as the reverse light... The winner!

Pictures:
3 on the left, Zero on the right

#3 was a little brighter, and a little more blue, but nothing to right home about. As you can see from the pics, they we're of about equal brightness.

Now introducing #5 on the left, Zero on the right

Wow... MUCH brighter. These are keepers. Go for these.

Let's compare those great superbrightleds license plate bulbs:

Zero on the left, #4 on the right.

Wow there too, much brighter, and more natural looking light from #4.Go for #4 for your license plate leds.

Last pic, since #5 is multidirectional, I put one in the trunk... much brighter than stock:

I plan to order 2 more for the vanity mirrors.

Needless to say, a good investment here. I'll keep the superbrightleds (Zero) in the interior for now, but need to order 4 more #5's for the reverse and vanity lights, and 1 #4 for the other license plate.

1 installation note. The leds fit in the housing, bit they're a little loose. I used a little silicone to secure them in the housing to keep them from vibrating loose. I recommend you do the same.

Questions?

Would you say that #4 gives off a blue-ish hue like the zeros do? It's hard to tell from the pic.
I put the zeros in after seeing your original pic, and have already had 2 people ask why I have blue license plate lights.

Thanks ..Kenny for testing these out for us and doing a write up

It was worth the wait.

To clarify..the #5 are the (194 SMT Tower) right? and #4 are the (194 Supernova Bulbs)?

Did you test the #5 bulb for the plate ?

Last question, the trunk light...how do you take off the cover?

sorry for all the questions :o)

Nice post Kennedy! I'm goin for the same combo!

So #4 is from superbrightleds.com and #5 is from autolumination.com?

It looks like they're both from autolumination.com, supertbrightleds.com seems to sell only "zero"

Only problem....$40+shipping for a set of these little LEDs, Ouch!

Tony,
1) Yep #5 is - "SMT Tower 194 Leds"
Seen here: http://autolumination.com/194.htm

2) No #5 is an omni-directional bulb. You need a focused beam bulb for the license, which #4 is perfect for. BTW, #4 is called the SuperNova.

3) The cover plate pries off with a flat tool. Search "Vanity mirror" and you'll see the how to for how to remove those crazy covers

Rocky,
No please reread. "Zero" is from superbrightleds.com (the little white one). #1-#5 are from autolumination. #4 is the "Supernova, #5 is the 194 SMT tower.

Kappa,
To prevent threadjacking.
1) The superbright leds 1W white are not too bright for interior, at least for me. I'd buy and try 1 before committing. I'll have some for sale as soon as these replaceements come in.

2) I personally run 3000K (yellow) HIDS in the fogs, and changed out the stock bulbs for 6000K D2S bulbs. Any 9006 HID retrofit kit will work, you can get as "white ir blue" as you want. The Cheap Nokya bulbs are also known for being whiter (artic whte).

3) I've modified my front and rear sidemarkers using this post as a guide:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...e+side+markers
Stock are 3mm high flux, I used the 5mm High flux leds, as thier brighter. It is a bit of work to swap those leds out though.

not to sure what threadjacking is but i have the zeros in interior and door already and i said i like the white look they give but i havent been inside the car enough to get a perspective on if they are too bright

for 3: i was going through that thread and i thought u could just swap the lights like the interior am i wrong? seems like a pretty diff mod

"threadjacking" is defined as asking supefulous questions in the middle of a well flowing stream of posts, taking the discussion off-topic. My reponse was intended to quickly answer your questions, albeit slightly off topic, and get the thread back on track... You asked about fogs light bulbs and side markers, which have nothing to do with the LEDs in discussion here.

In response to yuor last post:
1) Sorry, didn't catch you already have the "Zero's". I think they're fine, but if you think they're to bright, that's your call.

2) No, you cannot replace leds in the sidemarkers without cutting them open. From the pics, you can see that the leds are soldered to a circuit board inside... They're not "bulbs per se. That's da truff.

Cool now?

Back on topic, anyone else have any input or thoughts on the autolumination bulbs?
