Post tranny problem fixed?

I am guessing the tranny problem is not an issue on the 2004 TL.
I am definitely interested at getting back into an Acura especially this new TL. I had a CL-S, lost it to a red light runner, and went with the G35. I am now looking to add a TL to the family.

Thanks

I've read few 2003 Honda Accords are having Transmission problems. And someone thought the 2004 TL has the same transmission as the 2003 Accord.

I have 2002 TL-S and 2003 Accord and have not had any transmission problems so far.

I have a 2000 TL and for one have not had a transmission problem. I really can't imagine that Acura/Honda did not fix the potential transmission problem on the brand new TL.

Just to quell a few fears. The new TL's transmission is being imported from Japan, not built in the US like the 2000-2003 transmissions.

Lets cross our fingers that there are no more problems.

Tranny Ver2

My sales lady told me that this is 5-speed Tranny Gen2 and is supposedly even stamped on it, and it not supposed to have the problem of the other one. So she told me.

I am hopeful but skeptical. I am about to get my third transmission on my 2003 TL-S. I am not impressed at all with how Acura is handling this. I was told my options are to keep getting new transmissions and they will replace my car "when the lemon law is triggered."

Real impressive. I've never heard a manufacturer talk about the lemon law being triggered.

They've got a problem here with the current models. They seem unable to fix it.

How should that make me feel about the new one? Not too positive at this point.

And, it's too bad, because it looks like a great car, absent these problems.

Works for me, I would love a new car w/ no mileage free of charge. Sounds like a deal to me

Talked to my dealer, the 04 TL uses the same auto transmission as the acura MDX, which weighs ALOT more. So im guessing its a heavy duty transmission.

Dealers will tell you anything -- I know mine did -- does anyone have any substantive evidence of this?

WRONG WRONG WRONG. The 5-speed auto has always been Japanese-sourced.
The engine, on the other-hand, is US built.

Nice try, though.

The 01-03 CL/TL autos were made in the USA (including many of the parts) .. per the document prepared to the NHTSA by American Honda in regards to the crappy tranny investigation.

Keep in mind that 'sport shift' is nothing more than telling the computer when you want it to shift (overriding the normal shifting algorithms) .. has nothing to do with the internals of the tranny.

T Ho is absolutely right. The issue has been beaten to death on these very boards. Hopefully Acura is using a different transmission supplier.

The last thing I read about it (in a publication, NOT on a Forum) was that while the trannies were/are being built in Japan, some of the internal parts were forged by various US suppliers.

Interestingly enough, here is an article from last year about a factory for Honda Transmissions being built in Jakarta...so perhaps that is where the new Acura tranny is from:
