Per my advice, clutch drop @ 1,500rpm. Ironically, he is rolling on the same Falken Ziex's that I had on my 02 Maxima (long story with that one)..though dropped to 22psi.

The "2nd gen" CVTs are supposed to much improved over the 1st gen that I have in my Murano. I have not read on any tests with the CVT 3.5SE but the new Murano seems to pull fairly well with a similar powertrain.

The 6MT Altima is much faster. A guy I know on nissanclub.net ran a 14.1@100MPH with a 2.3 60ft time. Pretty much right in line with a 08 AV6 6spd coupe.

Yeah I've been waiting to line up with a SE-R... Do the newer models have an SE-R?

No the newer models do not come in a SE-R form. Just the 3rd gen altimas. The SE-R isn't any faster than the SE. The extra weight of the SE-R negates the extra 10hp.

10hp/2lb-ft is only a very marginal advantage over the the regular 3.5SE. If anything, the SE-R's handling setup is where it excels over the 3.5SE/SL. My hunch is that the next gen Altima SE-R will have the new Maxima's 290hp VQ version.

God I would hope so. That new version of the VQ is supposed to have the updated CVT tranny that will offer better performance oriented driving compared to the last CVT. I am looking forward to seeing the numbers for the new 09 Maxima. That car looks so much better than the 6th gen maxi!

Indeed, the 7G looks like it may make up for that 6G.

Redemption is going to be a steep hill for Nissan to climb. The 6th gen Maxima was an abomination.

The Altima Coupe comes in a 6spd as well. Same HP and TQ as the sedan but weighs about 50lbs less. I believe it only weighs 3205lbs for the SE 6spd.

That big bulky Altima sedan weighs around 3300lbs? I can't imagine that.. Auto's versions are heavier than MT's right?
