TL-s v.s Maxima(5.5?)

Coming home from the clubs I get tailgated by some Maxima so I pull into the center lane(I was in the right lane) He pulls in front of my lane and throws his hazards on It was around 4a.m so I decided to take the challenge.... I was around 65mph and gave it full throttle.... I had no problem pulling on him and I actually went up to 130mph and he was 4-5 cars behind.. I slowed down and when he got even with me I pulled again.. He could not pass me and he was trying pretty hard... I even let him pass me(he threw his hazards on like he won) and I WOT and caught him, paced him for a minute and pulled on him again.. It seriously wasn't a challenge but it was pretty scary going that fast...(never again) Now all I could tell was it was a newer black maxima with HID's and had some exhaust/mufflers done.. his car had a deep throaty sound... I have 08 TL-s with AEM CAI and P2R spacer..

I think he has an auto, or at least I think that's what he said in other threads. Nice kill btw! Also, if your new TL-S is really auto, how does it compared with your 03 model?

When it was stock the 03 felt a little faster but with the CAI, it defin. pulls harder..

I wish I had my camera...I think stock v.s stock TL-s over a 5.5 maxima.... I don't know if he was auto/manual but we were both modded

nice, it's surprising to hear that the 03 felt stronger, is your car still in break-in period? Do you think your 03 would have pulled on the Max?

look how modded is 03 TL-S. every single bolts possible.

have you ever looked into the g35 6 mt sedan? Kind of leaning towards that atm. I had a bad experience with my TL. Too much problems.

What problems? I'm looking into the 3.5 conversion/ F.I and 6spd swap on my 03.. Not a G35 fan...

I'm at 2k so passed the break in... I think the 03 would have been a closer race but as of now I'm trying to fix my misfire problem so I took off my pulley.. I feel Dave_B comment coming...

I had tranny problems, moonroof leak, blown shocks at 40k miles, etc.

dang thats gonna cost hella money to swap a 6 speed. lol just get a new car. are you leasing your TL-S? I kind of wanted the TL-s but after finding out that theres a new model next year kinda ruined my mood + the fwd kills it.

^ haha no wonder you don't like the TL no more....

he already got himself a new car though, I'd like to do a 3.5L 6MT swap too but it's too bad I don't have the money...soseductivesf, you mentioned FI, are you gonna go turbo or SC? And yea..you shouldn't have said the 03 would have been a closer race..it won't be long before this thread gets locked haha...

JJaber06, the gains weren't noticeable for me. Only mods I felt some power gain were the intake / pulley .

Seems like every other thread is a TL/TLS vs 5.5/6th gen Max, G35, 350Z or BMW 3 series.....With all the other cars out there these seem to come up so much.

^ lol, it's because those cars are pretty close in drivetrain layou/performance, etc. C-Class people don't really race, A4, we all know they are not too fast stock. Besides, there are quite a few S2000, mustang, camaro encounters too. And then other cars are either too slow, or too fast for us.

I just took another maxima from a dig last night.. He maybe got 1/2 car length on me but by the time i got up to 60mph he was 2-3 behind... i honestly don't think a stock 5.5 maxima can beat a 3g tl-s

Go to Maxima.org and then go to the 1/4 forum. Take note of how many 5.5 gens are deep into the 13s with NA bolt-ons.

The aftermarket is not that large for FFL versions of the VQ35DE (i.e.: Maxima, Altima, Murano, Quest, I35). The FM version (i.e.: G, Z, FX, M) does have a sizeable aftermarket though.

I modded my own 5.5G w/an Injen CAI, Cattman Y-pipe and UR crank pulley. I lost a little lowend with the CAI but it seemed to compensate @ midrange. As for the 02-03 TL-S, I ran one on the NJ Turnipike when I was stock and it was even from midrange 75mph on.

I have driven a good mix of these cars over the past few years, notably the 5.5G AT (owned), 02-03 TL-S, 3.2TL, I35, 04 TL AT, Altima SE-R (6MT and 5AT) and 07 AV6 (6MT and 5AT..own a 5AT now). Out of these FWD performance sedans, the SE-R def struck me as the most "potent" and in definite need of R compounds at the drive wheels. CAVEAT: I have NOT driven the 07-08 TL-S.

I can say the 08 TL-s stock is just as fast as my 03 TL-s with I/H/E/P... i just installed the pulley a couple of days ago and it really makes a difference.. actually the torque steer is pretty bad now...

Same deal on my 5.5G: the UR Pulley made a noteable difference AND mitigated some of the lowend loss attributable to my CAI.

yeah.. at one point the SE-R was geared faster in the 1/4 than a same year 350z...... yikes
