Tickets...For Tintied Windows?
Tickets...For Tintied Windows?
I Really want to tint my windows....but im just afraid that if i do...and god forbid get into an accident or get pulled over for speeding it will screw me over somehow...i just would like some input on this whole topic because tinted windows really spice up a car...
well each state have their own limit like my state u can go no lower than 35%. If u go to ur tint place they should tell you what is the legal limit of ur state. And NO it wont screw u over if ur at the legal limit.
well its not really that im worried as much about getting a ticket....but what about insurance claims...say i get into an accident...where do we take it from there....can't they file in a report that tinted windows affected my sight of driving....so my insurance policy won't cover that or something of that sort....
I live in South Florida. i have always had my cars tinted with limo tint. I think that is like 10%. I have never ever had a problem. But than again this is kinda the "anything goes" state. The only complaint I ever had was from my wife who said she could not see out the windows at night. Thats one way of keeping her from driving my new TL. So yesterday I went to the tint shop and got limo on the back doors and rear window and 15% on the front drivers side and passangers side!

The tint shade will have no affect on your insurance cost if you get into an accident. Your insurance should not even go up if you get a ticket for the tint shade bc its not a moving violation. I guess we're pretty lucky down here in warm sunny Fl bc the police don't pull people over for tint darkness. I went with 15% on the TL but my previous 2 cars (4-Runner and Jeep Cherokee) had 5% limo tint and I never had a problem with the police.
No it will not affect your insurance if you get into an accident. I totaled my 96 Accord 3 years back and my back window shattered into pieces due the impact of the hit. Having tinted windows actually saved me from getting cut by pieces of flying glass. My window just shattered and fell on my back seat. Since then all my rides have had tinted windows. My only advice is go with your state's legal limit this will save you from be hassled by the cops.

I have 15% tint all around. I have Utah plates but i go to school in Colorado and live in Illiniois during winter and summer break. Its nice because Illinois cops cant do shit because i have out of state plates, and Colorado cops dont give a shit about tint.
i dont think cops can just pull you over for tinted windows, they would have to pull you over for something else like speeding then mention the tinted windows in which they will most likely give you a warning and tell you to take them off.
well thats the problem....if i ever get into an accident...or get caught speeding....or something of that sort....if the cop sees the tinted windows....he dosn't exactly go as lightly because sometimes cops ssee shit like that as an immature racing type gesture and they don't treat them as like an equal driver....i guarentee you if two tl's were speeding the same exact circumstances i guarentee u the car with the tints would get the worse...
Well technically a cop cant give u a ticket for ur tints unless he has the device they use for visibilty through tint which most cops dont carry...but i've seen many cases where people get 35 % n it's actually lower..i've always had 35% n never had a prob...legal limit here is 75%(might as well not tint) good luck
I'm pretty sure cops can pull you over for any reason they can make up. I suggest rolling down both front windows b4 the police officer approaches your vehicle.

Thanks for the complements. If and when you decide to get the tint done make sure to install moleskin or you will get scratches.

Legally in most states you can't have the 2 front windows tinted. Basically it is really just a fix it ticket anyway. Then you have 3 choices.
A) You have a friend who is a cop and can sign off on it
B) You take it back to the tint shop, they will charge you 40 bucks or so to take the tint off the front windows, then get the ticket signed off, and then if you want get the tints put back on later. If you go back to the same shop they will charge you no more than 100 bucks to do the front 2 windows a second time if you get a ticket.
C) (my friend who is a cop told me this one) Go to the police station that your cop is stationed at (it's easy to find out, just make sure you get his badge #) Sit there for a few hours and watch the cops go home in there own personal cars. Write down the licence plates of all of the cops cars that have there front windows tinted, you would be amazed. Go to court and when the judge asks you if you have anything to say for yourself, show him the list and say that it is a double standard and you don't think it's fair, not only will the cop shit himself, but the judge will probably be embarassed to and throw out the case.
Im not making this up.

damn i feel really gangster i got only 2% tint on my tl and i love it sooooooo dark and even when the windows are rolled have way you still cannot see in the car i love it and it really make the car look sharp...also it makes my camel interior stand out really good when you open the door cause you dont expect that beautiful interior until you open the door...
In my 1995 Maxima I have 15% tint all around, but thats because the
interior leather is Beige. So during the daytime it does not look dark because
the interior is a light color. At night, its Dark (regardless of what % tint you have)
Being you have a SSM with Black interior, I would go witha 35% tint all around.
With the interior being Black it would look Dark enough.
I've gotten pulled over, but my brother-in-law is a Cop, so I got away with it.
In New Jersey, you CANT HAVE ANY TINT on the FRONT driver and passenger windows. You can have tints on the BACK (3) windows only.
And keep in mind inspection.
(I failed inspection last year, so I had to remove the tints on the front windows)
But I re-tinted them afterwards.

yea thats what i was pondering.....but i was thinking maybe ill do a lighter tint all around like maybe 50% all around or mix it up maybe do lighter in the front and darker in the back... gotta wait till the spring.....but new jersey sucks...i hate it!
Well...
If you're gonna tint regardless, dont do 50%. Not many places have it. Most have 5% (limo), 15%, and 35%
If you do 50%, you will STILL fail inspection, so you might as well do 35%.
and whatever you do, Dont make it look like an SUV but having the back windows tinted only.

I have never heard of failing inspection because of window tinting and the only place that you should be careful when driving with tinted windows are at bridges and tunnels where I have heard of them writing tickets for it.
Once again..
In NJ you CANNOT have any % on the front driver and pass windows.
If there is any film on the front windows you will fail inpection.
There is no such thing as limit in NJ (when it comes to the front windows)
Other states allow 35% for the front. BUT NOT SHITTY ASS NJ.

Alot of the new cars have a slight (very slight) window tint built into the glass.
Mercedes uses a bluish color. My wife's volvo has a slight factory tint (greenish).
I believe our TL has a slight hue of green built iin.
But those built-in tints are DOT approved, and are allowed. Its the Aftermarket FILMS which are adhered to the Glass are not allowed.
Look at the windows of SUV's. There are tinted from the factory, but if you feel them there is no FILM on them. The actual glass is tinted.
And you will also notice that they never tint the front winidows. only the rear.

(
very new yorkerish i must say)Have you had the experience to back up that statement ???
My experience: got pulled over for going over 25, got a warning ticket on the sppeding and the tint. Had to undergo DMV inspection to verify it's legal. So that was just one single asshole cop ?
