Angry Theft attempt

Some burglar tried to steal my TL this morning around 5 AM.
It's very safe neighborhood... supposedly...

I don't have any extra security alarm, but panic alarm went off fortunately
and nothing missing from a car...

But when I lock or unlock the door, it makes "Click" sound which is normal, but another "motor winding click" sound follows right after the first regular click sound...

Just wondering, was this normal? or maybe something broken?
(If this is abnormal, do you guys think I could service it with a regular factory warranty?)

Bought a CLUB thingy for the stearing wheel just for the sake of it.
But it sucks to have that heavy thing put on the stearing wheel everytime and not sure how good it is in preventing the theft...

My TL isn't even aspec, have wings or anything fancy...just regular, well cleaned, and manual shift...Why in the bloody hell they want to steal my TL when there are Beamers and other nice cars in the neighbor...

Believe me, the club will not do anything, lol. The oem transponder system works better IMO (not that I have any experience, just what I would think).

i think by moving the seat up all the way, and leaning the back all the way forward so the headrest almost touches the steering wheel would help.. so they have no way of driving the car.
they could just push/pull really hard to move the seat but it's pretty hard to.. i think at least
i'm actually thinking of setting driver seat 2 memory to that position everytime i'm in a dangerous neighborhood

all they'd have to do it press the button to move the seat... it's not like the seat locks in that position unless you have the key...

If its outside your home, install motion security lights and cameras. Whenever you hear anything-hit the panic alarm. There is always secondary alarms you could add, but at that point you might as well just pay for lojack and keep the car insured.

The club will slow down the casual car thief, they want the easiest target, the one with no protection at all. Nothing stops the guy who is determined.

I use a brake lock just because it is obvious.

I think you are more likely to lose whatever is in the car than the car itself.
Thats all the common thief wants, something to sell or trade for drugs or food or ??

If you believe in prayer, it never hurts to say one of protection for the car when its parked.

Ibn bad areas I look for a homeless person near where I need to park, ask if this is their spot, and pay them to be my security. 2 bucks now, 3 more when I get back and everything is ok.

They will defend your car with a gang of friends if needed because you have given them an actual job, not a handout. Thats respect, and who doesnt want to be needed?

God damn criminals. It's just frustrating that despite many who work hard for what they have, there are scum bags out there who just want to take without working for it.

I bought an Autolock for my car instead of the club. It's locks around your brake pedal, or clutch and you can't press it down. I usually put it on my clutch because it's hard to fit on the brake. Also figure it may be able to drive even with it on, downshifting and using the E brake, figured that could be a possiblility. I know the club is easy to break off, I really don't know if the auto lock is any better. If anything it'll just slow the bad guys down. I know when I put it on and take it off it takes longer then the club.

Wrong. the thief in a hurry will bypass a club in most cases. Especially the joy ride type.

I used the autolock for my Accord. I just purchased another autolock for my TypeS. I think it should be more effective than the steering wheel club. The autolock will add an extra obstacle for the thieves. But by no means.......it is theft proof.

the joyride type will be looking for older civics/integras to steal, not tl's.

When you went out to your car after the alarm, was a door open? The hood? The trunk?

If none of those were open or unlocked and there was no damage, it might have just been an error in the security system. To get the factory alarm to sound, a door, the hood, or the trunk must be unlocked and/or opened.

I remember 100% clearly that before I go to sleep to press the fob twice to make sure that nothing was half closed.
Yup, door was opened up when I came out to check out...

Thanks for all the feed backs!,
Ay, could you guys, if you have time, to check if you get that motor noise right after you lock or unlock? I think something is broken...

Gosh, TL is the nicest car I have ever owned but I guess it comes with a bit of price when it becomes one of your valued, I wouldn't say an asset, but favorite thingy, gaget, or whatever you would like to call it...heh....

I had the extra motor noise too. It wasn't from some thief tryin' to jack my car though. It just all of a sudden appeared and was an intermittent problem that kept coming from my driver's side. They ended up replacing some kinda locking-mechanism-motor-thingama-whats-it and it was covered under warranty. Maybe you should just take it in and ask them about it. Good luck and glad your TL is still with you.

Talking

Take it straight from someone who knows...

The Fuzz...

If a thief wants the car, they will get the car. Period. They can just as easily steal a repo truck like they do here, and go around and steal the nicer "theft proof" cars by simply hauling them off. But there is a possibility that I didn't see covered that should be considered...

BMV...

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle...

Here, BMV is a big problem. Scumbags ride around the neighborhoods looking into cars and take advantage of people being careless and leaving things of value in the car. And they can hit every car they come across in mere seconds. The value could be low as a $5 CD case. Yes, they will take anything they think they can sell. Chances are, they got your door open, made a quick look to see if there was anything of value to take and boom, they're gone.

1st, I would recommend improving on your factory alarm. If you don't want extra remotes you can go w/ a Viper from DEI that makes a plug in system that attaches to the factory alarm. Impact sensors, plus the whole deal of a aftermarket alarm w/o losing any of the factory stuff except maybe the door key window roll up. I put a system on my car after it was hit in my parking garage, and of course they split w/o leaving their information.

2nd, I would look into a few of the things listed earlier in this thread. There was some nice ideas in there worth taking a look at. When it comes to the protection of your beloved property, nothing is too extreme... especially when it is as precious...

Really?
But my windows don't roll up automatically when I lock...

Thanks all!
I guess I'm lucky that car hasn't been stolen, at least.
Will carefully consider what I could do.

Just heard that the car is getting stolen every few seconds in US...wow!
I've reported it to the Sheriff so that they could do extra patroling in the area (hope they took it seriously)...

Hmm, the motor noise, normal or broken...?
I guess I will go to the dealer and ask about that during vacation...(while I'm checking out the new type-S...)
