Thanks

nope it won'y be able to differentiate between the 2 oils. if you run synthetic you can run longer than normal engine oil but most people still follow the change intervals of the mid.

**Most warranties also state that whether running dyno or synthetic oil you "must" follow "published" change intervals.**

I'm running on Amsoil synthetic. Reset the MID at >10% and it's at about 60% now. Going to go get an oil change at the end of this week. But you can safely go maybe 2 cycles of the MID if you use quality synth.

which amsoil product did you use? i used their xl7500 thinking it was full "synthetic" but later learned that it was actually from group III base stocks and not "true" synthetic. their series 2000 is from group IV base stock and is a very good product.

The point being, yes you could/can go two cycles with the MID given synthetic oil use.... But if you inadvertantly have engine troubles and the dealer/manufacturer catches wind of your change interval (synthetic or not), you "will" run into a warranty issue for not following the "published" requirements.

My recommendation for anyone would be to follow the MID or owners manual service schedule (which ever comes first) while the vehicle/engine is covered via warranty. Now, if the manual references synthetic use and states greater intervals are OK - your covered.

Synthetic will probably keep your engine cleaner in the long run. Though if you do some calculations, you'll find that its cheaper to change your oil/filter every 5,000 miles with conventional 5W-20 and Lube Control. In fact, much, much cheaper. It'd still be cheaper if you did that and performed an Auto-RX treatment every 60K.

In addition, there are such good conventional motor oils out there that I really don't see the point to synthetics. For example, the Motorcraft 5W/20 Synthetic Blend offers almost the same performance as the Mobil 1 0W/20, which costs three times as much. Does the Mobil 1 allow you to triple your oil change intervals? NO. Does the Mobil 1 better protect your engine? Questionable.

Therefore, for economical reasons, its cheaper to use conventional motor oil, Lube Control, and perform and perform an Auto-RX treament than to use Mobil 1 or another Group IV synthetic oil.

You can get Valvoline Durablend 5w-20 (5qts) for free and (2) Bosch filters and you will be set for a year. The oil rebate program runs 4 or 5 times a year

The key thing is whatever oil you decide to use make sure your filter is changed regularly. Full syn oil will easily go 10k miles but do just a filter change at the 5k mark to get any dirt out
