I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to or had knowledge as to why the TL upshifts automatically from 1st to 2nd when put in sportshift mode as opposed to both the RL and the TSX which holds the 1st gear until you manually upshift.

 

i don't know why they changed it.. but only the '99 model would hold the 1st gear. hmm so if the '00 and up models are the ones really have the tranny issues, maybe they should've left it alone

 

We've speculated onthat since I've been on the board and owned a 2G TL. It simply doesn't make sens to me that we shouldn't be able to hold 1st gear. The reason can't be fear of abuse of the gear--otherwise the same approach would've been used on the TSX and RL.

 

For the same reason Acura put side mirror blinkers on the RSX and RL and not the TL...

 

As I always say, I am glad there are no mirror blinkers. That shit is ugly, IMO.

Anyway, if you want to hold first you can always put the selector into Low.

 

I agree, those side blinkers are terribly ugly. They are one of the ugliest ones i ever saw in my life.

 

If i remeber correctly the RSX and the TSX are a world car and has to meet those countries regulation as the TL 04+ is only USA.So thats why they have the mirror blinkers.

One interesting attribute of sportshift is that at a standstill if you move the shift lever into SS and then tap it forward from 1 to 2, it will start to accelerate slowly in second gear. Handy for starting on snow or icy pavement.

 

And it keeps on 2nd gear each time you stop the car instead of starting in 1st.
I tested it in snow recently and it helps a lot.

 

The new TL-S holds 1st as long as you want... or any other gear...
