Let me start by saying this thread is a likely to be a rant.
I've had my TL for about 15 years ago. It's been a great car. This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago. Not too bad for 312K miles.
Went out last week for dinner with the boys and the bartender came to our table and asked if anyone was driving a gray Acura. Went to the parking lot to find this...
I was parked next to a Dodge Ram. It was not that close to me but it seems like the other driver tried to exit their parking spot and the tire caught my front bumper and yanked it off. I am sure some alcohol was involved. Didn't even stop. I did call the cops and the officer was able to find the other driver but there was absolutely no damage to his truck. He had no proof and so the repairs come out of my pocket. The other driver said his wife was driving and he didn't hear, feel or see anything. Most expensive half dozen wings I have ever had.
I am hoping to have it back next week. I'm getting the front end repainted as well. Lots of stone damage over the years. They are also respraying my back bumper and fixing some scratches my son added to my car a while back when he was learning to drive.
Now on to other things. What really burns me about the bumper was I got the car back a week before. I needed my timing belt replaced. Did the Aisin kit TP, water pump, tensioner replaced as well as replacing the oil filter gasket, vtec solenoid gasket, oil pan resealed, transmission cooling lines replaced. The car had developed a bit of a leak.
Feel free to flame me for this but it was 200K miles since I did the timing belt service. This is what the belt looked like with 200K miles.
This was what the oil pan looked like after 312K miles
Anyways - People suck and I should be shot for not changing my timing belt for 200K miles.
Some do, indeed!
That's one reason I get the stink eye, from passengers in my car, when I park in BFE any where I go.
Just to try and protect my old little gem in the urban jungle.
The TL is back home where it belongs. Picked it up yesterday. Overall they did a really nice job. Repainted both bumpers, both front fenders, repaired door ding on rear passenger side door, fixed scratched on driver's side quarter panel near bumper and the hood. He also cleaned the headlights for me.
2 minor issues. First is that the aftermarket bumper does not have the embossed "ACURA" on it. I miss it but also like that it looks cleaner. Second is there are some scratches on the hood from the buffer. I am going to take it back for him to look it over. Its not horrible but I can see it in the sun.
I am going to get it re-tinted at some point this year. The tint on it is about 14 years and the back windows are flaking on the inside. Looks OK from far but needs to be redone.
Went by Cars and Coffee on Sunday to check out a buddy's Lambo. I parked in a spot next to the venue but caught a couple folks walking around it and checking it out. Felt kinda nice. Next time I will put a sign on it that said it has more miles than all the cars at this show worth over $100K put together. There were some sweet cars there.
