Smoke/steam coming from engine then stopped

Here's what happaned. I was driving around LA for about 10-15 mins around 10am or so (first time I drove it that day and about 70-80 degress according to the MID can remember the excat temp, but it wasnt too cold). Then at a stop light I notice an like smoke/ or steam coming from the engine on the passenger side. Thinking it was a fluke I went to a few more stops and still notice it. I finilay got to the place I was heading and poped the hood. I had radatior fluid and my oil was good. Nothing seemed out of place. Then after an hour or so I drove it again and no more smoke/steam. Its been a week since this happaned and I didnt notice it again. I was wondering what was causing this? Because the last time ive had smoke comming out of the engine I blew my radaitor.

Also is it normal to notice your radaitor overflow bottle lvl slightly go lower over a period of time?

Was it raining out?

And yes, it's normal for the overflow bottle to go up and down.

I have to say no the the puddle. It was pretty much dry everywhere I went. Might be the breaking cuz I was driving in LA with alot of stop and go traffic. But still it strikes me odd because this is the first time I notice this after it have the car for 5 months.

isnt your air filter over there? Maybe you sucked something in. I'd give that a check.

Guys, lets think for a minute. What is HOT under the hood?

The Exhaust. Most likely you got something on the exhaust, maybe a little oil or omething and it was burning off. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Your 2006 should still be well within its warrenty. If you didnt just drive through a puddle it may be worth having them look at.

Your car isnt 6MT right? But then again I guess if engine was coming from your hood your clutch woulda been completely burned out and you couldnt move it...

Thats for all this tips. Im going to hold tight being its no longer happaning. I'll also going to take a peek at me air filter and transmission fulid. If it happanes again im deffently going to the dealer. Its always hard to explain something wrong if you can duplicate the problem and the dealer might say nothing is wrong. Thanks for the help.

A few years back I had some "friends" play a little joke on me. While I was at work, they got under the car and smeared some grease on the exhaust pipe. As soon as it got hot it smoked like hell. Scared the crap out of me. I had a fun time figuring out what it was. No harm done to the car, but even today I still don't laught too hard about it.

Me Too!

I have this same issue with my 08 TL TypeS
Sunday was the first nice day here of the spring
it was 73 degrees , so not HOT but definately a change from regular Oregon rain.
I also just got my Oil Changed on Friday.
My wife had just arrived home from driving the car. so it was warm.

Started the Car, and noticed I forgot my Phone/Wallet in the house. Went to get it ,had a brief discussion with my wife about dinner plans, which were interrupted as I noticed my car.

It was blowing white smoke/steam from the passenger side. not constantly. but it was like
PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! for like a 2 count.
stop for a 2 count
PSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH! again for another 2 count
stop

I turned off the car, opened the hood, and looked around. didn't see anything. Temp was fine. Oil levels good.
Turned the car back on , waited for about 45 seconds and same thing.

This time I was at least able to see it wasn't comming from the front of the radiator. I was able to see that I was leaking some fluid. (seems like water) that had collected on the ground. no idea where it came from.

I ended up waiting until the engine cooled down, and then went where I needed and had no issue. It is now Tuesday and I've driven to work each day since without issue.

Any ideas, or did OP ever get resolution?

He searched and posted in a thread relevant to his issue instead of creating a new thread. Nothing wrong with that.
