Shift Knob Options?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this... anyway.

I have a '08 TL-S 6-Speed where the metal on the top of the knob has peeled back and is VERY sharp. I would like to replace it with an aftermarket knob, if possible. I'd hate to fork over the money for another stock one just to have it de-laminate again in 3 years.

The stock shift boot has a plastic piece that clicks into the bottom of the knob. Can this be replaced or do they make a knob that this connects to? I like those metal ones I've seen on here before... but I'm not sure about connecting this piece. I want it to be as stock-appearing as possible.

Haven't quite heard this question before and I don't have time to search threads, but maybe this will help you find something to start:

OP i dont think there is an aftermarket shift know that will allow the plastic piece you speak of to fit. If you look at your stock shift knob it seems to be force in tight.

Raise it up and use the screwing down of the knob to make it super tight.

I had a VERY low shift knob...it was great, never got hot. But mixed with the short shifter, I did NOT like the lack of leverage. I recently swapped to a mishimoto weighted (almost 4 times more) shift knob...and I LOVE It. It's black chrome.

from far:

and here is my old one...

I found this on a different thread. I gotta PM this guy and see what he did to fix it... I like the Monster Knob from using it in Miatas before. However, I also found a thing from a company called "StrutKing" that is basically a piece of metal that you ziptie into the shift boot in place of that plastic piece.

Has anybody used this StrutKing adapter?

UPDATE:

Apparently TWM advertises on here and popped up with the perfect solution for my issue:
http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftkn...d-phantom.html

But if my wife (it's her car) can handle a hot shifter, I can get a slightly taller metal one like this:
http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftkn...hiftknobs.html

I just need to search around on here if an RSX knob fits our cars. If so, they even make the boot adapter specific to the knob. I'd just have to remove the console, cut off the plastic thing, and ziptie the new adapter on. Done.

Only problem is price. $188 plus shipping. Yeesh.

How do you keep the shift boot from sagging?

I used a washer in between the nut to keep make sure it's on straight and knob itself.

Here's my Skunk2 with the Comptech short shift kit along with all aftermarket shifter bushing along with the slave cylinder mod. I didn't even need anything to hold the boot up it stays up all on it's own.

One down side is in the summer the knob gets hot as hell, and in winter it's like grabbing a damn ice cube. I actually had to go get some cheap super thin leather gloves from an Army Navy store that are made for Police.

I got one of these 2012 SI shift knobs... feels fantastic and its very durable. Lighter than the stock s2k 1/2 leather version.

I really wanted some deerskin driving gloves, but they were $68. They're on sale now for $40. So, I think I just found an item to add to my xmas list.

Here's mine, used a collar from a TSX I think it was, basically same collar just black, inserted upside down so the collar isn't visible. Stays up with the boot and ghetto electrical tape

I believe Honda / Acura uses the same thread across all manual shifters, all cars.
