Cool Saved by the Beamer

Last night I'm driving my TL home from work, I merge onto the PA turnpike, and (of course) there's this truck going way too slowly in the left lane, with an old BMW 5 series practically glued to his rear end, trying to get him to move. So I wait for the other lanes to open up a bit, pass them both on the right & go on my merry way, maybe a little under 80 MPH.

A minute later, in my rear-view, I see the Beamer give up & pull out from behind the truck, finally passing him on the right as well. Guess the guy was pissed off, because a couple of seconds later, he's right behind me, coming up like a bat out of hell! (I'm still going about 80.)

So I get out of his way & let him go, and he just files past me - the guy's probably going close to 100. About a minute after that, my radar detector goes off: K-band (which means "cop" 'round these parts). So I slow down, of course, and then I see a pair of tail lights (no flashers yet) slowly pull onto the road from the shoulder, make their way through the traffic up ahead (still no flashers, but everybody's getting the hell out of his way), and THEN the flashers come on.

As I drive by, who's he got? The Beamer, naturally. Nice, fast car, but dude, get a radar detector! And oh yeah, thanks for flushing out that cop for me... :p

I very rarely see any troopers on the NE extension between Norristown and Mahoning Valley but from there to Wilkesbarre you have to watch out. You do have to watch out at the tunnel though because they sit in the lot at the depot.

The same thing happen to me, but I was the victim. I didn't like this guy and he was going about 100 mph. I pass him going over 115 mph. I did have a radar, but the cops were well hiden and using laser. My radar when off, but I was already clocked, no time to slow down. I got a ticket for driving 105 on a 65 wich is 35+ mph ticket. I was just glad I didn't go to jail. It was 2 troopers btw.

Nothing special, just an old Uniden... I think it's the LRD767. Not too fancy, but it does have a built-in compass. It was actually something of a gag gift from some friends of mine, when I got my last car, because of my notoriously bad sense of direction. Don't need the compass anymore, though, with my new nav system!

I've been thinking about upgrading my detector, in fact. This one doesn't give such great protection. What really saved my a** last night was that Beamer getting zapped ahead of me - I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise.

Can anybody here recommend any good ones? I think somebody posted about the Valentine awhile back... anyone have any experience with that?

I have the passport 8500 and it has done a great job. You will likely hear that and the Valentine as the ones to get. Seems like both have their advantages.
