Rust?????!?!
Rust?????!?!
ok, so ive been in vegas for the past 4 days, flew back in last night. this morning when my friends picked me up to go eat, i look at my TL and find this.....

what is that about? should i try and rinse it off before i drive? will it mess up my brake pads? or should i just not worry about it...
when i pointed it out to my friend, he said 'ive never seen that much rust on rotors before, ever, in my life!'

you are just repeating what others have already said. genius
I've only had one other car with disks where the rotors didn't show rust: a 2000 SVT Contour. Ford SVT used some kind of coating or impregated the rotors with something that kept this from happening.
With my TL, my rear rotors don't show rust (like after washing or after having driven in rain that left it in my garage for a few days), but the fronts do.

ayethetiense, it looks like the wheels are wet. Did you wash your car just before taking this picture? The reason I ask is my rotors will "flash rust" in the length of time it takes for me to wash and dry my car. But all my previous and current vehicles with disc brakes do that. And the fact that your car sat for four days, probably outside in a relatively humid environment, will contribute to this. The rotors are simply cast iron and cast iron will rust. Nothing to worry about at all.
Yeah i had that too just recently I asked my Father in law about it he told me "Yeah thats normal but if you really dont like seeing it they make plastic covers you can have painted to cover it up so when the're rusted you cant tell"

Very normal. All (or almost all) iron disc brake rotors will get a light coating of rust on them when they are not used for a few days, especially in a humid environment.
