Reverse tilt mirror grinding.

So, I have my mirror set to tilt down on the passenger side when I throw it into reverse. The little motor/gearing really doesn’t seem to last long in this car. I had it replaced at-least once and now again it stopped tilting down all the way. It’s been grinding and making noise for a while but now it finally gave up again.
I have a Honda which we got in 2010, reverse tilt down as well, never had an issue with it, it’s not even grinding (Watch me jinx it…) so, I’m wondering is it possible to swap the Acura motor for a Honda one since it seems to last longer?
the Honda in question is a 4th generation Odyssey (as mentioned above, we got it I’m 2010).
yes, the TL is older but it also went through one or two mirror motors already.

thanks!

Take them apart and compare them, not sure if they will even fit. Additionally, the cheap option is to just stop using that functionality.

Or you can go to to the above two sites and look up the part number to see if they are similar

Honda parts are Acura parts. My replacement actuators for my TL came from the Honda dealer. Pretty sure the TL, Accord, MDX, and Pilot from the mid-2000s all used the same actuators. You would need to go look at the part numbers for the Odyssey to see if it uses the same part.

thanks for the links. I would like to stop using it, but I try to get it as close as possible to the little storage shelf in the garage (reverse park and the obstacle is on the passenger side).
I’ll check out the part numbers, but as you said it’s not likely since the housing and mirror size is quite different.

I was just wondering if others that use it often have issues too.
thanks

I’ve had mine replaced numerous time by my Acura dealer (covered under extended warranty)

Ive given up on using it since my warranty expired and only turn it on if I absolutely need to use it. Even then it seems like it’s about to go out again.

bummer that you’re having issues as well. My car is in for service now so I asked them to replace the mirror too. I’m sure they fixed the tilt down mechanism and they will also sprinkle fairy dust to prevent the dash from cracking, they really do care about their customers!

I applied grease to the new mirror motors before installation and it has helped prolong their life significantly. Getting ready to replace the MDX motors after 15 years of use.

new mirror motor already installed, I’ll remember this for a few years when I’ll need another replacement. Thanks CS!
