Resistors???

So i understand i need resistors for my switchbacks driver and passenger side. How much do each resistors cost? And where can i get them? And my last question is, Does anyone know the part number for the switchback cause im getting different numbers due to the base model Tl and Tl-S. Thanks Azine

they cost about $7 each.
You can get them at www.autolumination.com
part # for base is 7443
part # for TL-S is 1157

get the 30 LED switchbacks and the 6ohm resistors, unless you're going to put LEDs in the rear also. If so you want 3 ohm resistors.

You can mount the resistors in the trunk regardless of where your LEDs are. Search the forum for DIYs.

^^right, just be careful where you mount them they heat up pretty hot.

The white does have a slight tint of blue to it, kind of like 6000K HIDs

Damn, ok. So if i get the 3 ohm resistors they are good for the dome, door, trunk and reverse leds??

I recommend the 4 ohm 100 watt resistors at parts express when using LED turn signals. A several of us are using them with no problems. You only need 1 per side, brings the draw really close to stock, and they don't get hot like the 3 ohm ones do. A good mount point for them is right above the tail lights when you pull back the trunk trim there is a ledge there right above the tail light. The resistor wires are long enough to run down to the turn signal wires.

here is the link: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...TOKEN=85280371

or the part number is 019-015

Do you have to be running both front and back LED's for them not to get hot? I installed these (Partsexpress) and ran my Hazards for 15 min. At the end the resistors were to hot to touch. Did I do something wrong?

You only need resistors if you are going to use LEDs for your TURN SIGNALS. Resistors are not needed for interior lighting.

Thanks guys for all the responses. Im gonna make this simple cause im asking to many damn questions. What kind of resistors do i need if i wanna do the switchbacks, led reverse lights and led trunk lights? And thanks again for all the feed back guys. And Trew thanks for all the info

if you're doing switchbacks for the front only, then you only need 2 6ohm resistors. they can be mounted in the trunk and tapped into the rear turn signal wires. that's all you need. the reverse and license plate LEDs don't need resistors.

The reason resistors are used for turn signal LEDs is to put extra load on the circuit so the blink rate stays stock. without the resistors the blink rate will be very fast.

No you didn't do anything wrong. You run hazzards for 15 min and any of the resistors will got hot. The 3 ohm resisters will most likely get hotter faster and reach a higher temp. The important thing is to mount them in a proper location in which they don't come in contact with something flammable.

The reason for the different resistors is just keeping the current draw close to stock for the turn signal relay not to think there is a bulb out causing the fast blinking.

Uses of resistors:
6 ohm resistor: 1 per side but can only be used if LEDs are in front or rear only, not in both locations. If you do both front and rear then do not use this resistor

4 ohm resistor: 1 per side and you can put LEDs in both front/rear at same time. Have LEDs in front and back and running this resistor puts you very close to stock based on calculations others have posted in threads.

3 ohm resistor: 2 per side and you can put LEDs in both front/rear. I have seen people post that these do heat up very quickly. I believe that these draw more current than the 4 ohm resistors.

Correct me if I got anything wrong.

Thanks for the info. Did you use self tapping screws? Where did you mount them? I might need to go in and move them again.

There are a few different ways.

Kennedy's method: The ledge above the tail light has a couple of mount holes at the edge of it. The are to close to mount both sides. Kennedy used a small bolt to attach one side of the resistor to the mounting hole. The other side he used a strip of 3M tape to secure the other end.

My Method: I have the 3M Velcro tape (you can get at walmart). Both back sides of the velcro are sticky. I just put a square on each end and put them down on top of the tail light ledge. Keeps it in place and nice and easy to remove if needed. They have stayed in place just fine so far.
