All installed and working. SO bright it's awesome Simple install, I ended up dropping front bumper so I can set into housing easier.

rdered the 5k triton v3 switchbacks in december and was told they would be backordered until mid march....on saturday they randomly show up at my door, no shipping notice or anything, excited to get these in. the new 5k DRL LEDs are still backordered until mid march but i'll run these switchbacks with my 6k towers for now

any other advice/hints on getting the switchbacks to fit just right into a type s (from reading sounds like i need the adaptor collar and 2 gaskets per socket)? what about mounting the control units and the CLS modules? also posted in the other vled thread here https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=878471&page=3

thanks!

I didn't take many pics of install, due to cold weather yesterday & day before, but install wasn't hard by any means. I used 2 screws opposite another to hold bulbs into housings, used 1 of the smaller gaskets on both fronts & rear, all held in nice & tight, no movement in them at all

thanks i don't expect it to be hard, but i know some people had some issues with the type s mounting.

i'm looking for type s specific info for the switchbacks

^ The early shipped switchbacks only came with two of the smaller size gaskets which wasn't enough to secure them in the 1157 socket as you need to double up the gaskets, VLEDs now ships four of those gaskets from what I understand so you should be good.

They are shipping them with 2 thinner small diameter gaskets, 2 thicker small diameter gaskets and 2 large diameter gaskets. I just installed mine on my type-s on monday. I used the thicker small diameter rubber gasket, and they fit perfectly. Hope this helps someone!

yup that helps! i took out all the packaging but haven't gone through it yet, but i'll take a look tonight.

where did you mount the controllers and the CLS boxes (if you got the resistor kits)?

I mounted them to the brace you see through the fender liner. But thats just temporary, I plan on removing the bumper next week and doing a better job of mounting them.

Shipped out bad bulbs Friday. Had to pay $12 to ship them out, turns out my fuse blew but not the common blinker LED the hazzard fuse. Wasted $32 on the relay as well.

They got my bulbs yesterday and shipped new ones today. I will be wrapping these new ones in electrical tape like crazy!

I received my tritons yesterday. I guess they were not on back order after all. All parts I ordered were included. Not sure when I'll be able to install them. We just moved so there is way too much to do around here. Plus, my TL is tucked away for the winter.

Sorry I did not see this.

Not sure if you installed them or not but when you get them open it up and you will see the V3 triton "main box" or the "brain". It has two prongs on each end and these prongs come apart EASILY and when they do water will definitely inside and ruin the circuitry (what happened to me before).

I got mine yesterday and put electrical tape all over the prongs and now I am confident no water is going to get in.

edit: so looking at the pic one more time, i think i have to physically remove the bulb from the socket and then the Vled will insert there. going to go try that real quick.

original post:
so i took off both my fenders halfway to install the V3 triton switchbacks for my type s, but when I went to make the switch I noticed that the connectors are not matching up. i ordered 1157 which is a cylinder looking connection and below is what my OEM looks like. is there another connector upstream of this connector that is the 1157 or do I have a different connector than expected for the type s turn signal?

i was pretty frustrated after waiting 3 months for these so I buttoned everything back up so I can't take a peek upstream right now. curious to hear any feedback.

^^^ yea i'm an idiot. i just have to twist and pull the actual bulb out. disregard question haha.

will post pics once CLS and controller boxes are mounted, much easier to take off half the fender then trying to pull back just a part of it

got my V3 Triton 5k switchbacks installed today!
the whole kit is very robust, it comes with dielectric grease for the connections and heat shrink for every connection as well. the hardest part is securing the controller box and CLS (resistor kit) but other than that it's a great plug and play setup and is a great match to the OEM headlights (4300k). with all the zip ties this setup is not going to move, pretty solid

i changed the length of the Triton bulb until the LED output was the same height as the filament from the OEM bulb

took off half the fender for ease of access

this is the turn signal area

driver side setup

passenger

passenger from below (had to make sure the CLS box wasn't hitting the windshield fluid hose)

and the final product!

Looks awesome! Thanks for posting pictures. It seems tedious posting pictures of a bulb installation, however, they are expensive. Helps others get an idea of what they are getting.

So much easier if you guys just buy front and rear and install the V3 resistors in the trunk. There is a perfect "tray" for them to sit directly above the tail lamp assembly. I just used a strip of double sided tape and its perfect. Now the resistor doesnt have to be subjected to outside conditions near the engine bay, not to mention its extremely easy to access the tail lamp area. Just a little tip ;-)

Agreed, I did this as well. I used bolt to hold up there though, going through one resistor hole

I think those bulbs might be defective.
V-LEDs sent me defective bulbs and replaced them without cost.

Before installing the Tritons, did you utilize the relay mod with tower LEDs??

I have the turn signal relay mod in the flasher, no resistors. I've narrowed it down to the one unit, they are going to replace it.

Could someone take a picture of the lights on during the day from the side? Side profile seems to be missing from everyone's shot unless I'm missing it.

Im the original poster of this thread and im pretty sure I posted a decent side shot in direct sunlight. I think its on page two and I have one picture showing the original filament bulb from the side, then the V3 LED from the side. The picture is not completely off the side, but more so at about a 45 degree angle from the front. Regardless, the V3 LED's are for sure brighter from all angles.

These LEDs are goddamn bright. Almost as bright as the LEDs on top of the State Trooper/ Police cars.

Don't look at them head on.

I agree!! When I was installing them a while back I accidentally looked at one while I was holding it in my hands and I had the hazards on to make sure I had the polarity correct. Without exaggeration it caused a pounding headache that lasted all day lol. So its no joke, try to avoid looking at right at them especially before you put them in the housings.

I was browsing eBay and came across some bulbs that look promising, they have a similar reflector to the Tritons and come up with up to 20 watts worth of CREE bulbs in them...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-High-Powe...item4609b4074d

Anybody wanna be a guinea pig? I'm curious to try something like that for my rear turn signals.

Nope. Those look nothing like the V3's and certainly don't have a lens like the V3's. They have a round glass thing but that doesn't do anything. You have to understand one of the things that's key about the V3's besides its extremely powerful LED's is the lens because that's what allows these LED's to take advantage of the reflector housing. Not just a couple LED's aiming in a few directions which is like those LED tower bulbs that just do not work. I'll stick with the proven V3's thanks ;-)

ok so still debating if i should get 5k or 6k i know 5k goes best with oem headlights.

does anyone have pics with usr switchbacks, 6k headlights and the 6k triton switchbacks? i got usr side markers i don’t know if it would look best by buying 6k bulbs and just getting 6k tritions to match the side markers. i kinda wanna match all around but maybe it’ll look just as good with 5k.

6K Tritons look more like 5k, a brilliant white. My HIDs look slightly pink and warmer by comparison, it's not very noticeable.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0#post14240010
I did this and had nothing but problems. 1st attempt, no hyper blinking but left side flashed orange and right side flashed (softly) white after 5 mins of parking lights being on (switchbacks). Bought new relay and tried again (perfect soldering) had same problem. Ditched switchbacks (for sale if anyone wants them) and went back to halogens. The modded relay worked great for 6 months until I needed my hazards; turned them on and they worked fine. Turned them off and the left turn signal keep blinking even with key out of ignition. Had to pull the battery and replace the relay to get it to stop. Modder beware.

I would MUCH rather pay under 20 bucks and use the V3 resistors that are 100% plug and play. Mounting them in the back by the tail lights is quick and simple.

DJ5,
I replied to your pm if you didn't see that. Like I said I assume you received the 1 LED resistor by accident when you need the two LED resistor. One for each side.

o4komodo,
DJ5 has the new V3 triton resistors that are fully plug and plug and because of the connectors it's not really possible to mess them up. Like I said I think he may have received the ones made for only one LED not two.
Seems like I remember you and I had similar issues. Glad to hear this bulb set up is working great for you. Maybe I'll splurge.
