This is a dumb question. I've owned my TL since 2006 and didn't notice 'til now. What is that semi sphere R2D2 shaped thing on the dash (passenger side)? Is it a light sensor to compensate AC (one side may be under shadow, other side under sun)?

Temp sensor, I not sure when but in 07-08 TL they have adaptive climate system meaning if the sun shine more on the driver side then the A/C blowing colder air for the driver and slightly warmer air for the passenger.

 

Correct, but many older and different Acura models have this too

 

the adaptive sensor for AC is on all 04-08 TL, the 07-08 has an extra sensor and that's for the auto headlights.
