Lights On Indicator

The lights on indicator seems to be a two step deal. With "auto" selected when the indicator first appears it's just to show that what we used to call parking lights have come on. A little later the nav screen goes blue (from beige) and, apparently, that's when the low beams have come on to boot. Anyway, the lights on indicator doesn't necessarily mean your lows are on yet. Anyone else notice this or am I seeing things?

The parking lights are also the daytime running light, so they should always be on. The navigation screen, at least on the 2013, had daytime settings, and nighttime settings. I think it is a separate "eye" that changes the screen display depending on the daylight (vs the one that controls the headlights). I can also change the screen background colors (in one of the screen settings).

I'm referring to the nav screen automatically changing to blue in response to a given level of ambient light being achieved. This may be a separate event from the low beams coming on. The indicator light also comes on when you manually go from off to the first notch on the stick, but at that point the lows are not on so the indicator light may or may not indicate low beams on.

I do not fully understand the question but you're right that the sensors/ software for low beam headlights and the navi screen brightness (day night function) are not the same. They seems to function independently of each other and have different sensitivities.

I suppose the question would be how would you know whether or not your low beams are on when running in auto mode? If you wanted to push the issue another indicator would be called for: lights on, lows, highs, and fogs. Too much to ask for when they won't even give a washer fluid light.

The light that comes on in your dash display is when your low beams (and taillights) come on. If the light is off then only your DRL are on.

Wrong, the high beams are the DRL's (at a lower intensity), it has nothing to do with the parking lights, which are tailights and side markers on.

The DRL, on a 2016, is a LED bar that runs along under the jewels.

"The light that comes on in your dash display is when your low beams (and taillights) come on."

When in auto.
