Hello all,

I am brand new to the Acura family, I currently own a 01 BMW 325i but will be purchasing a 04 Acura TL with 180,000 miles on. The dealer says its fully inspected and they changed the timing belt as well as front brakes. What other things should I expect the dealer to have changed before. Please let me know any questions or concerns I should bring up to the dealer. Also with a car with such high milages what kind of things will I be looking to replace in the future, from my understanding the reliability of the TLs are great for the most part.

Hope you are getting a good deal because that thing is over 10 years old and a ton of miles. The auto trannies in those things are iffy they say. If at all possible look at the updated 07/08 models. I have seen those for low teens with waaayyy less than 180,000 miles, and you don't have to worry about things like the tranny and you get the most up to date 3G design and features.

 

Bring in a Honda/Acura mechanic with ya and have him inspect the transmission, oil pump, power steering pump for any leaks, those will be visible right away once you lift the car after you've driven it.

Also, have him check out the engine mounts

Make sure the front power adjustable seats work, make sure the memory seat feature works, make sure the rear defroster works, the sunroof, the windows; just take your time and tell your salesperson to give you a good 30 minutes with the car so you can inspect every feature.

Also, if you can, go check out the car at least once at nighttime and inspect the interior lighting, you might find a couple bulbs burnt out, for example, the hazards or the a/c buttons, etc

since its from a dealer, they should have the carfax/autocheck posted on their site, but see its maintenance history a pattern or trend of increasing repairs

I'm pretty well versed in cars and motorcycles..... But when I bought my 04 TL a couple months ago I didn't bring anyone with me. However, it had 16k miles on it

 

I'll second the tip on the interior lighting. Check it out in the dark. The interior buttons have an annoying tendency to go dark and the bulbs are a pain in the arse to replace. You don't want to have a car that's unfamiliar to you whose dashboard buttons you can't see at night. It's one thing if they burn out after 10 years (as some of mine have) when you're familiar with the car and everything falls readily to hand. It's quite another if you're driving it for the first time.
