PlastiDip inside headlights??
PlastiDip inside headlights??
I've only heard of people using paint inside their headlights. Since I want the freedom to reverse the process if need be, i thought plastidip could be an option. Does anyone know if this would be bad? I wasn't sure if it would create humidity in the housing (Im not a chemist or anything close to one) or anything of the sort.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I know some people on HIDp that have successfully used it, but with our headlights I just can't see it working to well. Here's why I think it wont work. When I tape off some portions of the headlights with painters tape, the chrome will sometimes come up with the tape, seeing how fragile the chroming process is on these headlights, I could bet that chrome would come up with plasti dip. I may test this out and see what comes of it.
Dude, paint it. I imagine that you want to have the option to reverse it if you don't like it. Well then you have to take it apart anyway to reverse it. What if you do like it? That shit's going to peel and your headlights will look like they have some foreskin.
Paint it. If you don't like it. Take it apart, and paint it back. http://www.carid.com/universal-paint...FYY7MgodZF8AAQ

I'm not sure about peeling. I dipped the inner part of my exhaust tips on my accord and it held up fine. However the finish of plasti-dip would look like shit inside the headlight and it won't match the frame that holds everything in place. Paint it for sure. Look through the photography section to find a set of headlights you love and copy that. There are a ton of different combinations you can do.

Sounds like the consensus is to not plastidip lol
I plan on leaving the sides orange. If it looks bad then I'll take them out.
The *chrome* inside the headlight, on plastic, is not actually metal chrome, but a deposit of aluminum, same as the *chrome* on scale model plastic cars and airplanes. That is why it so easily is removed or pulled-up by tape. Plastic cannot be chrome plated as can metal.
And any chrome aerosol paint does not look like chrome (or aluminum) either, except for AlCad brand paints which must be applied with an airbrush, and is even less durable than the original aluminum coating. AlCad (sp) is used by scale modelers for cars and airplanes.
There is also a similar product which has been used to paint an actual real car body, which is apparantly almost as durable as regular car paint, and really looks quite close to *real* chrome. Search online for pics and details. That product might work to repaint the inside of a headlight, but I do not know the temp range of that product, and whether it might work in a headlight.
