Does anyone have experience repainting their front bumper? I need to do mine and need a DIY. Any help?

if you are doing the entire bumper, i would not recommend doing it yourself unless you have the proper tools (paint gun). i attempted to do it once after an accident and the paint cracked after a few months.

I have had this bumper painted before and the paint is chipping so it was not properly done and I'm really pissed about that. I spoke to the mechanic/body shop guy today and he said it would cost me 350 to do it because of the high price of the paint. How much does the paint cost? Somebody please help me.

I know paintscratch.com sells paint in various forms but how good is this?

Please!

i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself since it's a huge part of your car and imperfections can easily be seen.

It's possible but it's going to be a pain in the ass you must have atleast SOME prior experience. If you use the spray paint method, the paint match won't be spot on and the finish won't be as glossy and smooth.

I'm surprised the douche body shop won't cover it though. It's there responsibility to fix it.

Exactly what I'm saying! The guy was being such an ass and he should cover it but according to him, someone has bumped my car while it was parallel parked in the city and that is not his fault; however, it is his fault that the paint is chipping so FREAKING EASILY!

It's hard not to get the bumper painted and not get chips after a little while. My car has a lot from the highway driving. There is really nothing you can do about it unless you want that training bra on the front. No matter how many times you paint it, it's going to have a few chips over time. It is the one part on the car that shows it's age with milage. A DIY is really out of the question here unless you know exactly what you are doing and have all the tools to do it. Sometimes we gotta breakdown and pay up. Good luck!

If you don't have tools/equipment/materials its going to be costly to buy quality paint, ect and get things set up to paint. AM is also a tough color to match when doing bumpers, even if you have the closest variant it may still need tint adjustment. Also depends on the paint system and how good they match AM, the standard color maybe a good match. I agree with going to a reputable shop that will do it right the first time and stand behind their work.

He owns a shop I believe but he hasn't been on here for a while and I don't know how to get in touch with him.

I had a scratch right smack in the center from my garage door handle that came down on it. Had a guy come out and repair it and smooth it out and paint it.
Color matched good and it was a good job, but after 6-7 months I notice the clear coat he put on it started peeling where little chips or rocks hit it. So now right in the lower middle I see white flacks here and there.
Best bet is to get a guarrentee or warrantee with it or just replace the whole bumper. nicks will still happen just a matter of how much youre willing to deal with them over time.
