I have experience installing new clutch kits on older Hondas with traditional setups.

My question is in regards to my 04 TL 6MT. Based on factory service manual, a special compression tool is needed to remove and install the self-adjusting pressure plate. Otherwise damage will occur.

For those that have performed their own 04-08 TL clutch replacements, where did you source this tool and how much?

I performed a search and found limited information on this tool. Most threads indicated a shop performed the work. Snap-on does not have this tool on their website. This is the only relevant tool I found for German cars...

I had a shop change out my clutch. but they needed the tool. they bought it and charged me $10.00.

I believe he said he got it from an Acura Dealer.


the tool itself is black and made of plastic.

 

^ You described a clutch alignment tool. I speak of something different, a compression tool for the self-adjusting pressure plate.

Honda dealers don't seem to sell the tool it seems.

 

In my '03 CLS Helms under the Clutch Replacement section it lists two special tools:
07AAE-P8EA000 - Pressure Plate Commpressor
07AAK-P8EA000 - Pressure Plate Compressor Adapter

In addition, it appears in the Helms diagram that the PP Compressor Adapter is fitted over the 07AAF-P8EA000 - Clutch Alignment Shaft in the 'PP Plate and Clutch Disc removal' and 'Clutch Disc and PP Plate installation' subsections. However, the Clutch Alignment Shaft is not 'specifically' listed as a special tool like the other two are.

Now the caveat is in regards to the applicability of these tools to your 04 TL-6 PP & clutch.

 

Zeta, yes those are same tools. I have the factory service manual which gives tool part #'s.

Problem is locating sources that have them for the consumer.

 

I googled 07AAE-P8EA000 and the only place that looked as if they might have the tool is located at the link below. It's about the twentyth line item on the webpage.

However, my mechanic said he is the only one who really ever uses the special tool and most mechanics just tighten down the bolts a little bit at a time in the star pattern the service manual recommends. Good luck either way!

I've been researching, answered my question.

SACHS clutch kit K70352-01 comes with pre-loaded self-adjusting pressure plate. Somes with an alignment tool as well. You have to CAREFULLY align and install the pressure plate without setting off the pre-load. First time you activate the clutch after everything is reassembled, the clutch self-adjusts.

No need for this OEM tool unless you are reusing old parts or screw up the install.

 

have you replaced ur clutch in ur TL yet? if so, did u have to take the engine out? i heard of ppl just taking the bolts out of the transmission out and sliding it to the side and they claim there is enough room to replace the clutch. but after taking a look at it, it seems like a very tedious job doing it that way.

 

It's a lot of work, the engine says in place but needs to be supported.

 

so pretty much unbolt everything that is attached to the transmission, remove the driver's side axle, support the engine, unbolt the tranny n slide to the side? any helpful tips?

FWIW, I used to have an Audi S4 that I did a clutch replacement on that also used the same SAC mechanism (just found out the LUK made the clutch for the TL as well) If you can't get a hold of that tool, here is a link to the Audi board that I used when I installed mine. Even though my pressure plate was new, the guide still recommended to double check the setting in case of getting jarred during shipping.

On a side note, and to my dismay, this mechanism can fail making the car undrivable and require a clutch replacement.

Honestly do we even need this feature? What a joke. In all my years I've never heard of anybody complaining that their clutch grab position has moved a tiny bit from when it was new. SAC is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Thanks fro choosing LUK Acura. >:\
