Nav System/Audio Issues

OK.. I finally got to mess with the Nav system today.

Some things strike me as interesting, so maybe I am missing something.. Please let me know if I am.. thanks.

1) There are voice commands for DVD and CD. They are the same commands. What is the difference which you use since the system plays both in the same slots?

2) This seems to be a bug.. or a "feature". If you play lets say CD 1, after the last cut it goes to CD 2 and so on. I assume with Disc Repeat on it does not do this.

HOWEVER, if you have that disc in random mode, when it is done playing all the cuts in shuffled order, it does NOT go to the next disc! Shouldn't it do that unless the disck is in disc repeat mode?? So you can hear 6 discs in a row in shuffled track orders?

3) It seems there is NO VOICE COMMAND for a VERy important and highly used CD function.. PAUSE! In order to "pause" the CD, (and I found this by accident), you press the # button on the radio (not the nav screen.. ONLY the hard 1-6 buttons) of the CD that is currently playing. Pause comes up on the display. Press again to restart.

However, there doesn't seem to be a way to pause (like if the phone rings) using spoken word. I assume this is because the nav system does not have a way to pause (pressing the CD Icon for the one palying on the nav does nothing, unlike it's coutnerpart hard buttin which I just mentioned).

I hope they can do this in a software update but I guess this may be a hardware thing...

Did I miss something with these 3 observations?

Mike

PS - I like the way you can say CANCEL before the system does something, or hit the bottom Voice Navigator bnutton and you hear three lil beepd to tell you it cancelled.

LOL I had trouble pausing discs too. Thanks for the tip, I hadn't found it yet. Then again, I spend most of my time in the car listening to XM.

I just happened upon it.. I was actually looking for fast forward (which is the little scan buttons held in).

I am just wondering if anyone else finds it odd there is no Pause that you can do with voice commands.. I mean if the phone rings or something this would be what I would think you would want to do right?

The best you can do is "radio Off"

Also, about the CD not changing in Random, I do not like that at all.. if disc repeat is on that would be fine but not with it off.. apparently there is no memory to keepp track of when it plays all the cuts when it is in random mode.

Anyone else have commanets on this?

hmmm...

I don't have the car, but I think maybe the CD/DVD/radio would mute/pause if the phone rings and is picked up?

Try it out. Let me know.

The system mutes (with a quick fade-out, not a flash mute) on incoming call or on activation of hands free link to make an outgoing call. If it's playing a DVD or CD, it will pause the disc.

When the phone session ends, the system will restart the disc if appropriate, and smoothly bring the volume back up to where it was.

I hadn't figured out how to pause or fast forward the cd player yet either. Of course, I haven't bothered to actually read the owners manual yet either. Funner figuring it out on your own. I find something new every time I get in the car.

I've got both a 2000TL and a 2004TL. I haven't tried this yet on my 2004, but on my 2000 (with trunk mounted changer) here is what I've noticed:

When on random mode: It will play all tracks in random order, then it will advance to the next disc. However, if I skip a song using the "next song" button then it seems to get confused and resets it's memory of which songs it has already played. Try playing an entire disc all the way through (in random mode) without ever skipping a song and see what happens. I'd be curious.

Wouldn't want to spoil your fun, so I won't tell you to pause a disc, you hit the button of the disc that's playing, or that to fast forward (cue), you press and hold the multi-purpose "chan +" button.
