Extended Warranties. Pro's? Con's? Prices?

All:

Anyone buying extended warranties with their new 2004 Acura TL's?
If so, would like to hear about your experiences ....

Opinions - Pro's, Con's, Price's Paid.

Thanks!

I did. Should help the resale value when I resell. Way too many electronic gadgets for me to take a chance. I look at it as insurance. Every extended warranty I have bought has paid for itself in the long run.

Thumbs down USA VS CANADA

Why does Acura USA give a 4year Bumber to Bumber warranty vs, Acura Canada a 3 year Bumber to Bumber

USA 50,000 miles vs Canada 60,000 Kms

50,000 miles equals appox. 80,000 Kms

Good question since they are all made on the same assembly line. Thats another reason I got the warranty as it extends it from 3 years to 6.

How much did the extended warranty cost you, incidentally?

About $1,100 CAD. I only went for the 6 year warranty as I will be trading it in way before that period is over. My last car cost over $2,500 for the same warranty extention.

well this question all depends on what you plan to do with the car...i personally didn't buy it because i want to sell the car in like 3 and a half years and knowing Acura, it will hold up it's value...becuase as technology changes, you tend to start liking new trends...look at how many people with the 03 TL's have said that they WILL PROBABLY trade their 03 TL for the 04 TL...so if you plan on keeping the car for like 10 years or so, then it will be good to get one...but if you plan on selling it in like 3-4 years, then it's pointless to buy it...i know that when the time comes, someone will definitely want my TL so I am not worried too much about resale...but basically think as to WHAT YOU PLAN ON DOING A FEW YEARS DOWN THE ROAD and then decide whether it's worthwhile or not...just my opinion...

All:

Thanks for the comments! I'm planning to keep this car for 7+ years, as it has everything I could possibly want. That said, I agree with Jss1 that with all the techno-gadgets it's probably money well spent ...

In addition, my dealer is offering a "refundable" extended warranty option (for an extra $150 or so), where you can get a refund if the warranty never gets used.

Not really a factor in deciding to buy the warranty, but definitely nice to know that I'll get $$$ back if the car is as dependable as we all hope!

well that's good that the dealer is willing to give you the money back...but see whether it's pro-rated or not...becuase honestly, i don't believe they will give you all the money back...it doesn't make sense...but i may be wrong so who knows...but just check whether it's pro-rated or not and if it's not then get it in WRITING that they will give you the money back if you don't end up using it...

My dealer quoted me $1,580 for an extension to 6 yr./100k. I found a site on the net that offered the same time/mileage extension for under $900. Haven't had time to review the limitations vs. those of the dealer but from a pure dollar standpoint the Acura extension seems high unless it is all inclusive.

I think it was 7 years 100k or was it 6 years 100k. I will have to double check.

Definitely 72 months/100k. I believe the 7 year was one option but I never get more than 6 years usually. I checked my invoice to be sure.

Man, I'm feeling like I got ripped off with my warranty. I got the 7 yr/100k warranty for $1275.

Oh well... live and learn.

There must be some sort of difference between warranties/cost for Canada/US as the US starts off with one extra year included. Plus there is the dollar exchange to factor in.

I would have thought the US would be cheaper, but maybe more things are covered with the US warranty?

I've never had an extended waranty that didn't pay for itself. If you sell the car it adds to the value. If I were to buy a used car I would feel alot safer buying it if it had an extended factory warranty.
