Is my car slow?
Is my car slow?
I drive a 07 tl-s 5AT and I can only pace with a 4.0l v6 2007 mustang.. only mods the stang has is a cheap intake and flowmaster exhaust..
Am i doing something wrong?!?! Or is my 2007 Tl-S 5AT just slow as FUHHH?!
Should i maybe start powerbreaking??
Im riding on bt street freestyle 20's, could they be slowing me down by alot?? Other then that I only way 145 pounds..

You can power brake if you want but I would keep an eye on the trans at that point. Anyway I have heard even if you do that it bogs when you let off the brake. I would just make sure everything is running right first. The wheels can play a big factor also.
it doesnt sound like theres anything wrong with your tl. it sounds like its running fine, i just think you need to check your expectations. a fwd family sedan pacing a performance oriented v8 coupe is nothing to be ashamed of.

Yes by todays standards our TL's and even the TL-S's are relatively slow. Dont do anything stupid such as power braking (no clue what your even talking about) that will do nothing for performance and only brake something (like your trans).

P.S. oh and YES your 20's are slowing you down!! They are very heavy and wheels make a big difference in handling to. I would change those out not only are they heavy but 20's are to big.

Life goes on
Even though the Mustang is much lighter and has a bigger V6 engine, you should still out accelerate it from the articles I have read.
You might need to refresh your ECU as it adapts to your driving style. IOW, if you drive around like an old lady for a while, the car will slow down to give you maximum gas mileage. There is a thread on this forum that tells how to easily refresh the program for max acceleration.
Also, turn the VSA off and control wheel spin with the throttle. When the VSA detects wheel spin, it will cut back the throttle and, IIRC, even apply the brakes to the slipping wheel.
Lastly, another thread on here talks about how Acura purposefully cut the power in first gear (possibly second also) to reduce the stress on the tranny. In reality, it shouldn't make a big difference as my '04 TL will spin the tires on dry pavement all the way through first and partway in second with the VSA off.
Bottom line: It takes some practice to find the best combination of settings and techniques to get the max performance. When you get it right, there are some V8 lunches you can eat.

I agree that the 20's changes the gearing significantly, and for the worse when it comes to acceleration. It would give you more top speed but the TL already maxes out in 4th gear. Theoretically, you should get a little bit better mileage but that is probably eaten up by the extra weight of the wheels/tires.
I don't agree that the Mustang is more "sporting" except for the fact that it is a RWD coupe. It has an archaic suspension system and a live rear axle. The Acura suspension systems are much more sophisticated which allows TLs and TSXs to out perform BMWs and other brands with a more sporting image (in the handling department). I will agree that the Mustang has a more sporting IMAGE than a 4-door Acura. That is true. The Acuras also get more HP per liter than the Mustang.
