MAX button

I can't tell you how many times I've been on return legs of a road trip at night and was getting nappy .. and trust me, EVERY type of sensory stimulation helps keep you awake -- radio, open the windows... and the brightest dashboard I've ever experienced!

At dusk when I turn on my headlights I use the MAX to switch the NAV screen to day mode. It's easier that going to the set-up menu. Disengaging MAX puts you back to you're priginal settings. Smart switch. Acura thought of everything ...... well almost.

I too always drive with my headlights on, a safety thing, so the max switch is great for going quickly being able to see the board during the day, and getting it right back to night time settings in the dark.

If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have realized that this button would max the brightness and changed the Navi to daylight when the headlights are on. And I thought I had read the manual carefully.
I'm in Canada so we have daytime running lights. However, often run with headlights when visability is poor (fog, rain, etc.) to make sure my tailights are visible to following traffic. Now I realize I can have a bright screen and the daytime Navi screen with one push of a button.
Contrary to the opeing post, I think this is a really useful feature.

Now that I see the usefulness of the max button w.r.t. to getting a quick NAV display brightness without having to go through the NAV setup screens, I may actually start using this
Actually, is there any difference in brightness between MAX and backing off one notch to get the NAV display back to auto mode? I couldn't tell the difference in the dash brightness initially when I first did this (but it's been a while since I set it when I first got the car)
Thanks for the great tip.

Just back off on the brightness one notch. As i mentioned in my previous post, the dsah display doesn't seem to change much, if at all, from what it is when MAX is set, but the NAV reverts back to auto mode instead of being stuck on daytime mode, which is obnoxious at night.

oh shit so that's what the max button does. i thought it just raised the brightness to max. i had to go to the nav setup to change the screen to day. damn what a fool i am, shows you how carefully i read the manual.

It is also on the non-Navi models. You can preset a brightness level with the lights on, and one with the lights off, and also use the MAX button to get maximum brightness when you want to override the presets.
I wear sunglasses most of the time during the day so I need the MAX brightness, but at night, even though it is an extra step, it is easy to punch the button and get the preset lights on setting. The beautiful instrument display makes it all worthwhile.
