Not sure about "restrictor"....get the CAI....it frees up engine bay space as the stock air box set-up is huge.

You can see some pics of the black Injen CAI by checking out the following... photos.yahoo.com/ucsbchris2001

Last I heard, prices were around $220-$250. I know there was someone from "Import Performance" offering to ship it for around that price.

AzNxJ32: In terms of the "restrictor" or "resonator" removal. I think this thread should help
http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78904

Bitium tries to explain how to remove it for more airflow.

I'm still undecided on a CAI, whether Injen or AEM. First, will it be much more useful than the stock intake (Aegir had some good threads about the stock intake) and about the risk of water damage to the engine due to the CAI. Oh well, decisions, decisions.

Thanks for posting that link.....you save me the search..

As for emmision test....the resornator(you call restrictor) will not have any inpact whatsoever. The resornator is just to reduced noise and control flow. You will know more if you study resonance.

In florida we don't have emission test until the car is 10 years old.

I would like to take out the resonator as well. I do not want to add an aftermarket CAI but I do want the sound of a CAI so I figured removing the resonator would do the trick. Is it easy to remove....positves, negatives?

Ah, another "benefit" of living in under the "environment-friendly" Bush regime

10 years with no emission testing?? Sheesh.

How about 1,000 years in Kansas?

I have the Injen CAI, and it looks great in there. The sound is awesome, and it only effects higher rpm driving, so it isn't annoying under normal driving conditions. If you go to ebay and search for Injen 04 TL, you'll find a guy with a "Buy it now" price of $255.00 or so. I e-mailed him, offering $215.00 delivered, and he accepted. That's as good of a deal as anything I have seen.

Of course not. 99.9999999 percent of new cars easily pass the test. Testing hundreds of thousands of cars, to catch 1 or 2 polluters, isn't efficient. And it in fact, would cause hundreds of thousands of extra trips which would consume gas, and create more pollutants. It's just common sense.

I'm not a super-mechanic by any means, and I didn't have a problem. I would say if you are comfortable using screwdrivers and wrenches, you shouldn't have a problem.

I know exactly what you mean! If it weren't for those people, the thought of watching John Kerry run for office would be entertaining. But since clueless, ill-informed people abound, people like Kerry are dangerous. :smokin:

Removing the restrictor shouldn't hurt emissions.

I think he is refering to the govenor of Florida Jeb, the chosen son, not George, the partyboy son.

Alabama has no inspections at all. In fact years back people were makeing a mockery of the DMV by getting license plates for tricycles and little red wagons, just to show how easy it really is.

In NC they added emissions testing and the price of a yearly inspection went up $20.

speaking of emissions testing...

Here in kentucky the did away with the testing because it was found that the entire program was nothing but a sham whose only purpose was to put countless millions each year into buddies of the govenor's pockets.

thankfully we have ended vehicle emissions testing.

And don't even get me started on low-emissions gasoline. It saved something like 4% in emissions.

Know what the real kicker was? It lowered gas mileage by over 10%. some genius can do the math. Gee, it produces lower emissions per gallon but you have to use more of it for the same distance.

Guys, lets get back to the forum topic...sheeez..

Can someone explain to me the "real" risks of water induction with the CAI's...any difference between the two designs?

Live in Florida, and really want the extra horses...

Thanks!

I grew up in Tampa. I remember running into standing water on the roads is very common there. I would not run an intake that drew air from the bottom of the car. If it became submerged with the engine running, the engine is would likely be damaged. In summary, water does not compress and the components trying to compress it would break. I do not trust the bypass valves sold with these CAI's. I would give up a few hp and stick with stock or go with a short ram intake. My $.02.

Agree with Aegir. My salesman specifically warned me about putting on an aftermarket CAI when I took delivery. True, you'll get a few extra horsepower, but he said due to the location of the intake (down low) not only will you take in more air, you'll also take in some dirt (and water vapor?) as well. It was enough to scare me off, and I used to run a modded 99 Mustang Cobra (MAS with CAI, TB, Magnaflow, 4.10 gears etc etc ) meaning I like to 'tweak' cars. Just my .02

Any truth to the rumor that removing the restrictor and having a custom air filter would almost nullify getting a CAI?
