my rant about NASCAR

let me start by saying I'm a huge NASCAR fan. I've watched NASCAR almost every weekend since i was like 3 or 4.
Okay my rant this. NASCAR is IMO sucking all the fun out of NASCAR. for example restrictor plates. if you guys don't know what restrictor plates are. they sit on top of the carb's "barrels" it a plate that limits air sucked into engine which results in less Horsepower. I remember when i was younger in the early 90's(no restrictor plates) guys at Telladega,Daytona and larger speedways they had RAW HP you could tell they just stand on the gas and give it hell and go around the guys. they didn't draft like do today. it was raw "motor city" power put to the pavement.that's gone.
a couple other things
back in the late 80's early 90's they didn't have "mocked up" wanna be cars. yes NASCAR are race cars. but if you look back in the day guys would drive their moonshine running cars to the track race em win some money and drive home. The neat thing I thought about this was you could go to a Ford,Chevy, or Dodge dealer and basically get a car similar to such and such racer. you can't with NASCAR. you can't get a rear wheel drive Tarsus 2 door with a V-8. same goes for the monte carlo. the cars are basically shells.
my other complaint is recently with Jimmy Johnson and #48 team getting busted for cheating for his car riding to low at post race inspection. the thing is if him and his crew did it on purpose or it is true a bolt fell out during the race. the win should be taken away from him. If someone cheats they shouldn't be rewarded with prize money. sure he got docked in the on Nextel points and fined but it still sends the message of if you cheat you still win .

my last complaint: the whole "lucky dog pass" and " ending racing back to the line" A lot of people say in NASCAR the most exciting moments are the wrecks. I say after the wrecks were darn interesting because guys would STAND on the gas because 1st to the start finish line would be the way they'd line up behind the pace car. they ended that because the possiblity of more wrecks. come on NASCAR this was fun to watch. because i remember before this went into effect when i went to Bristol(i have a race radio) i'd hear spotters yelling on the radio "YELLOW COMING OUT ,YELLOW COMING OUT!" they give it hell until they got back to the start finish line.
Now the poor excuse of the "lucky dog pass" often when slower cars would be passed a lap or 2 down they'd on yellow flag condition(like a wreck or oil on the speedway) they'd stand on the gas and go around the pass car to make up a lap or 2. (which personally i didn't see anything wrong with this as long as they weren't about crashing into rescue workers). well they ended that because of danger of rescue workers. the thing is i remember at one race 3 or 4 guys got back onto the lead lap(it was long yellow flag) now no matter how long the yellow flag is they "grant" the guy highest positioned on the lap down back onto the lead lap and he doesn't lap the pace car or anyone.

Don't get me wrong I love NASCAR and watch it every weekend and still occassionally go to NASCAR races. but it isn't the same NASCAR as in the late 80's early 90's I feel.

Now, read that again and Imagine the song from Deliverance playing in the background.

It's an evolving sport that changes with the times.

Though I still think NASCAR is the least enjoyable form of automotive racing.

NASCAR = slow, noisy cars going in a circle... Hell the $70K pace car in this year's Daytona 500 could outrun most of the field. I might watch NASCAR if they would let them race without any restrictions including engine size, suspension, etc.

Formula One requires talented drivers and superb equipment.

Not to mention obscene engineering budgets...

if you watched last weekend when Carl Edwards won it was won on the last lap about on the last turn. he stood on it to beat Jimmy Johnson.
Carl Edwards really impressed me he was doing about 185-190 mph out of corner 3 or 4(i forget) the car "wiggled" coming out of it.he pulled it out. He's a young driver so i figured he'd freak out and spin the car or put it into the wall. but he did fine.

Whenever I tune into a Formula Gump race I eventually become so bored with all the "cautions" I turn it off before its finished.

F1, and even IRL and CART, is far more entertaining than Nascar. I agree that it was enjoyable many years ago, but seems to have become far too commercialized in recent years.

Everyone always says that Formula One is the greatest racing series on EARTH, but I just don’t buy it.

Every time I try to watch a race it’s a complete snooze-fest.
Sure NASCAR races can be boring, but every time I try to watch F1 it’s not much better.
A bunch of drivers whose names I can’t pronounce spread out on the course so far there’s hardly ever any position deciding wheel to wheel racing.
As the races wind down there’s usually several drivers that are many laps ahead of everyone else.
And then Schumacher wins anyway and the season is pretty much decided half way through.
WOW…That’s exciting.

I’d say that 60-70 percent of a NASCAR race is worth sleeping through, but watch a good tight race at Bristol or have 40-cars whiz by doing 200MPH at Daytona in one pack is AWESOME !!!

IMHO, restrictor plate racing is way more fun to watch. WHY??? Because the cars are actually in packs racings, versus single file and all spread out. So you lose a little bit of speed. 180 versus 200+mph... Big deal. If you want top speed, go watch the NHRA.

I like racing, regardless if it is NASCAR, Indy league or F1. Bottom line... Get the guys in packs and let them race that way. That's what keeps people watching.
