Have this problem too???
Hey, I'm new to the community and have a first gen, but I my older brother just got a third gen and on the way home from the dealer drove through some rain and his rear passenger seat was soaked, apparently the brake line wasn't sealed or something of that nature and I was curious to know if anyone here had heard of that before???
I don't see how the brake line would have anything to do with the rear seat getting soaked. If the brake line wasn't sealed then that would affect your stopping ability. It could be a leaking door seal, a leak in the trunk seal, or even a leak in the rear glass.
He should take it to the dealer where they can check it out and repair whatever is wrong.

Is the rear headlinger of your brother's car wet? Rear windows were rolled up and closed well?
I only heard one case here that the brand new WDP? 04TL got inside soaked when his wife forgot to close the moonroof and parked it in the driveway, then the isolated thunderstorm ruined it hours later.

FYI: The first day it snowed after I got my TL, there was some snow in the back seats (easy to brush out). For some reason, one of the rear windows was open about 1/8 of an inch and I never noticed it.

ok guys, no I don't drive in the rain with the windows down, I'm rather averse to destroying the interior of cars. No the moonroof wasn't open, and all the glass was sealed. Apparently the dealer was baffled as to what caused this problem too. What happened was on driving home from the dealership a friend was in the back seat and got out of the car with a wet rearend. Only his seat was wet, and only the bottom of it. We checked all the windows, etc. Looked under the car, looked at everything we could think of. We came to the conclusion that whatever it was it was coming from under the car. The guys at the dealership were snotty about asking questions too, you know "why would you drive with your windows down?" crap. THEN the took it through their car was and did the under body power wash, back seat came up soaked. So the decided that the brake line was improperly sealed to the back which caused the leak. So apparently they have fixed the problem. Otherwise the car is really sweet, I want one. Have a good day guys.
You know, I was waiting for this problem to surface. I had it happen to me during the first few months of my ownership.
I was driving to Atlanta, through torrential rains and my rear passenger seat (on the passenger side) was soaked. My windows & sunroof were also closed (obviously).
I took it to my dealership, but they could not find anything wrong. They did replace my seat though, after the leather started to look strange. I'll try and find my original post...I don't think anyone responded to that one because no one had even heard of this problem.
About the brake line theory, I'm not sure if I still understand, if you can find out some more, maybe I'll take it up with my dealer again (although it hasn't happened since then...but I haven't been in a rain of that magnitude since then either).
edit:
Found my original thread.

maybe take it to a car wash and do one of those underbody washes. I am having difficultly understanding why the brake line not being secured to the car would cause the back seat to get wet. AND why securing it on there would solve the problem. Don't the brake lines run around the sides of the car???
Ahh yes
I had my TL for about four days when I found this little problem out. I was leaving work and it was raining outside. The walk to my car from my office is only 20 to 30 feet. So, I decide to run for it. I get my keys out and hit the unlock button on my keychain. As I begin running I hit the button once more to unlock all the doors and just to be sure I hit it a third time. I open the passenger door, throw my briefcase in, close the door then open the drivers door and get in.
I begin driving away, when it sounds like I didn't close the door all the way or that I have a window open. I try the driver's side window and sure enough it wasn't closed all the way. I try the other windows and notice that all of them go up a `small amount'. Now, I'm afraid that the rest of the car is wet from having the windows open. I pull over and check all four doors/seats. I have very little to no water anywhere.
Then I remember reading in a post here on the forum, that if we hold the unlock button on our keychain down for a second or two all the windows will begin to roll down automatically. Eureka! Sure enough I must have rolled down the windows just a crack as I was running to my car.

cabbie, you're right about that remote. This is what we've thought in the beginning when someone says "soaked chairs".
But, screwball did provide very interesting answers... need to figure it out...
we can see if PoochaKannInc could bring back some hints from his dealer in his next visit.

hmmm
sorry guys, windows were up. I'm curious to know about the e-brake thing (emergency brake??) and how that connects to the car. The details on the sheet from the dealer are ambigious. But they do say they reconnected the mount for the brake to the rear seat. It was only the passenger side in the rear, and all 4 seats were filled on the return trip. No windows down, but it was raining like crazy. Undercarriage wash is how the dealer found out about the problem.
Thanks for all the info! I'm really curious to see how this works out. Have a good day guys.
