Wink Got rid of my TL

We went to the acura dealer for giggles... Just to see how much we can get in trade for our 03' TL, because the dealer called us, saying they wanted to buy our TL from us.

We were expecting to just walk in and walk out, because we were curious, and had nothing to lose, and wasn't expecting to get a good deal.

To my surprise, we ended up leaving with an 05' ABP TL/Navi

So now I can legitimately post in this forum, and not have to worry about getting flamed for owning a G35 Coupe

Two great cars....the G Coupe is the prettiest car on the road! Don't feel bad about having that in your garage, ever....

(But for four doors and the value, I'll keep my TL)

I wish I had a G35 coupe and a TL in my garage......but it would lead to divorce because that means my wife's Accord would have to live outside.

Congrats on a good choice. The new TL beats the old in many (but not every) ways.

what you own a G35 you should be exiled from this forum!! hehehe j/k i love the G35 coupe its a very sexy car. i was thinking about getting it but the rwd would kill me in the winter time. the new G coupe has 298hp but what is up with the torque drop? i think i prefer the 280hp coupe that has more torque and that came with the brembos. besides no one will normally continuously rev that high and get to the max hp anyways.

When we walked in the door, the wife and I already discussed our plan. We would just walk out, if we didn't get an offer for less than 34k. We had nothing to lose, as we were happy with our 03' TL.

Up front, we honestly told them, that they need to make a really attractive offer, and that we had doubts we would be leaving with a new TL, because this same dealer failed to match other dealer's offers, for our last 2 car purchases in a row.

They said, they "always" can at least beat someone else's offer. So we told them that was not true, because they refused to budge off MSRP when we got our 03' TL, hence why we didn't purchase it here. They claimed they are under new management, and their "strategy" has changed, since the last time we came in.

At this point, we figured, we knew this would just be a repeat of last time....

Their first offer of 36k for the TL/Navi, almost made me laugh out loud. I happened to have my iPaq on me, and they had free WiFi in the customer area... So while the wife was talking to the manager, I was digging up an old email, from when I was trying to get the wife to upgrade a few months ago. (As well as, some posts from this very web site )

I told them, this is the same offer you made me when I tried to buy a TL last year, and this is why you saw me pull in with an Infiniti, instead of an Acura...

The sales manager was looking at my iPaq, scrolling up and down. Handed it back to me, and said he'd talk to the finance manager. After he left, the wife and I figured it was game-over, and we would just walk when he gets back....

He came back, and said, "We cannot beat those prices..."

So just as I was about to get up and leave, he said, "But we will match it"

So we got a new TL with only 3 miles on the odometer, with Navi, Splash, All Season Floor Mats, trunk tray, wheel locks, etc, for 33k and some change.

They also gave us about 2k over blue book for our 03' TL. (I think they had a buyer that wanted a redondo red TL, cause I didn't see any Redondo Reds on their lot).

I think I got a good deal. So far the best deal I saw on these boards is 32 something, in boston, but we wouldn't be able to trade our car in, since we are on the west coast... It *really* surprised me, because I came in a total of 3 times to this same dealer to try an buy an 04/05 TL in the past year, and was never able to get them to budge off MSRP. (or MSRP+1200 the first time around)

And I don't think I have the heart to sell our 03' to a private party, knowing the tranny could go any day. (Was just replaced a month ago)

See, I think the opposite - I have never seen an Asian coupe I liked. Even the Accord looks off balance to me - something about the b-pillar-to-door dimensions just does not look right, The G35 shares the 350's hunkering, cockroach look). I like the Toyota 2000 of old, I think the 3G TL has lines which will withstand the ravages of time, and the S2000 as well.

I have owned one of each gen of TL, and drove them for their quality and appointments - but the 3G is one I actually like to look at.

We all know taste is relative, but a lot of people liked how Celicas looked, and now when i see one it looks like a trailer or a vibrator.

I got an 04 TL, but i cant lie that the g35 C is much sexier then the TL from its exterior. Don't get me wrong, the TL is the 2nd sexiest car in its class next to the coupe, but the coupe is more appealing. What won me over on the TL is its exterior combined with its fully loaded and sexy ass interior. Best of both worlds. If the g35 can sex up its insides, im def switching over in about 3yrs.

My goodness about the insurance tho... I thought it was wierd, our 03 TL was about $200 more per 6 months to insure than my 04.5 G35 Coupe. Our 05' TL is $356 more per 6 months to insure than my G35 Coupe Oh well....

the TL has a higher rate of accidents and theft... that's why... The G costs more and typically would attract an more mature (politically correct here) driver.. As such they either know how to handle the car better or do not feel they will live forever... So the more expensive car is cheaper to insure... and coupes are usualy more expensive than sedans to insure...

So give the example you provide the TL costs more than 700 per year to insure than the G. Therefore, if you own the car for 4 years, it would be a break even to buy the G costing about as much as 3000 more.. !! After that it is cheaper to have a G...

sounds like a typical dealer experience. it just amazes me what a-holes they usually are but they pretend to be your best friend when you are interested in getting a car. 36K for is over msrp for the TL i mean what are they thinking? and the finance managers are the worse of the bunch. car salesman are just about the worst people out there who are only interested in milking you for all they can.(sorry if anyone is a car salesman i do not mean all but most). but i am glad you got a decent price form the dealer and enjoy the new ride.
