Got Grabbed Today in the TL
Got Grabbed Today in the TL
My dad commutes about 40-45 minutes each day to work, one way. He's been doing it for about 25 years and has only been stopped about a handful of times. However, today was one of those days.
Got grabbed doing 85 in a 65 = $200 Speeding Ticket. The cop let him off for not having a front liscense plate, no sticker on his plate, and for having the expired inspection in the car instead of the new one that came in the mail last week.
He claims that the car got away from him and he didn't even realize that he was going that fast because the TL does a nice job at blinding you to that fact.
Anyone else feel that when driving the TL, you feel like you are not going as fast as you really are?
Oh well. Hopefully he can get it fixed and avoid the insurance surcharges.

I constantly have to watch my speed. I've caught myself going 95 in a 75 zone several times. I've only gotten stopped once. I was on a two lane road in the middle of nowhere. Only one other car in sight, far ahead, coming at me in the opposite lane. It was a cop, who made a U-turn and stopped me. I was doing about 75 in a 60 mph zone. After checking my license and registration the conversation went like this.
"What's your hurry?"
"There isn't any."
"Why were you speeding?"
"I have a new car and it's a beautiful day."
He stared at me, smiled a tiny bit, warned me to slow down and let me off.

Its fairly easy to speed in the TL. I came from an integra with horrible gearing for speed...at 80mph i was at 4600rpm (or something crazy like that, its been so long...) one of the most comfortable cars ive been in is the 2003q45. not a huge fan of the car overall but at 100mph you cant hear or feel anything. its impressive.
edit: the first day i had my TL i took it out. cop pulled up behind me, probably saw the dealer plates and just told me over the megaphone that the speed limit was 55, which was very nice of him

Yeah, I just got hit yesterday here in Oxford doing 58 in a 35. he wrote me for a 3111 which is failure to yield (no points) instead of a 3362 which is maximum speed limits violation which would be like 4 points. Phew!

Luck was not on my side last week ... I was on my way to fight a ticket that I received on the Mass Pike which was for $350 .... I get pulled over again on my way to court, this time on 95 (Watertown), for another $200.
I ended up getting the Mass Pike ticket reduced to $100 + another $200 ticket for a total now of $300 ... woohoo .... I saved a freakin' $50. Thank god I don't have a Mass license!!

"Grabbed" must be a wacky Canadian term...

Bad news for your dad, but at least he won't scold you too much if you ever get a ticket in his TL.
I've had my TL for a year, and I've NEVER been pulled over so far. Quite a change from driving an Eclipse.

Got pulled over with the car full of us 30+ year olds. "License and registration, please." He came back and asked me to step out of the car and meet him behind my car. That surprised me. I assume he was looking to see if I was drunk. He warned me to be careful, gave me my license and told me I could go.
"Why did you pull me over to begin with?"
Cop: "You were doing 54 in a 35."
Me: "really?"
Cop: "That is a nice ride. You probably had no clue how fast you were going. Watch yourself, we patrol this road in particular."
Almost made the stop worth it. Thank goodness we have enough punks driving around that the cops don't hassle us law abiders (with the exception of excessive but not dangerous speed)

Got caught doing 90 MPH in a 65 about 2 weeks ago. Had a pretty good track record for spotting speed traps and photo radar, but this guy was behind a huge snow bank. Pulls me over, gives me the ticket for $175, and tells me "I know you have a very nice car sir, but please, keep your speed down." Glad to see that at least he has a good eye for cars. However, he never said how many points were taken off my license, and there wasn't information on the ticket to tell me either.

Don't be cocky. Cops usually let kids under 18 off with warnings. I got off with everything until I hit 19.

"Grabbed", I was thinking it was going to be some sort of ransom note, calling for help for all acurazine members to unite an come to the rescue.

If this is MPH you should've been arrested not ticketed. In the fine state of CT you were sure to be concerned over a reckless charge.
I got nailed for doing 52 in a 35 zone a few months back - before I got my TL. Turns out the cop was a patrol officer who was stuck on traffic duty for the day. Wrote me up for 4 over = $20 and no points
. Cool guy - he warned me to slow down because "the regular traffic guys are a bunch of dicks and won't cut ya a break on anything." I thanked him - it tool all I had not to laugh when he hit me with that warning.
