Getting Window Tint...When the weather sucks!

Hey guys,

I finally have some extra time today and I want to go get my windows tinted. I'm SO impatient!

The only problem is that the weather sucks today. Raining all day and high of 50 degrees here in NoVa.

My question is this; could the weather create a problem for the tint adhering properly? Yesterday it was high of 36, today high of 50, and tomorrow temps are going back down!

i think your main concern would be drying times....
you wont be able to roll your windows down for quite some time.
also, ask your tinter about mole skin, as our cars will scratch the tint without it

I had a thick thick tint applied and even in the HOT TEXAS SUMMER it took about a month to fully dry.

my tinter did not want to be liable for tearing into my door panels, so he did not apply mole skin.

I bought a yard of felt(essentially the same as moleskin) and took off my door panels and applied a strip of felt to the window strip.
I did not do this right away, and one of my back windows has a scratch.

It shouldn't be a problem to tint now. I did mine when it was cold out and have no problems. In fact it would help you in the sense of not wanting to roll your windows down for a few days as they would recommend to you. They will use a blow dryer or heat gun to speed up the adhesion so don't worry about. Just make sure they do the rear door fly window correctly. Also I agree with Justnspace with the moleskin. It'll actually be cheaper for you to source it and put it on then having the shop do it but get a price from them anyway you never know.

I agree with everyone else. I live in chantilly va and just had my 04 TL tinted last week. I waited all this time but with a small baby I wanted the sun out of his eyes and to keep the car cooler in the summer. I went to LA Tint in sterling va. (Geoff) did my windows he is a pro. They used heat guns for a while on the tint, they do the full rear quarter windows and use formula one tint. (one of the best tints from what I understand and has a lifetime nationwide warranty.) They also have a very clean nice shop. I did 38% all the way around and it looks awesome. I paid 270 installed. Also I had it done on tuesday and rolled my windows down friday and everything looks great. If you have any other questions shoot me a message.

+1... I just recently had my windows done two weeks ago here in Chicago. Weather was crappy the day I got it done and has consistently been below freezing every day since. The weather won't be a problem considering the use of heat guns that help aid in the adhesion and Moleskin/Felt is a must. Sitting in the sun helps it bond as well. Don't roll your windows down for about a week and you should be good to go - with normal tint (Llumar, Formula 1, etc... ).

I got 35% on all four side windows and 15% on the back. Paid $275 for everything.

I had 30% formula 1 put on and it took about one week to dry. Make sure they tint under the brake light in the back windshield. I think it looks cheap when they cut it out.

Thanks for all the input guys!

The place I'm going to apparently has computer cut tint; its called Driven Dynamics.

I've only heard good things about them, and apparently the owner has a TL (Azine member mentioned that)...and they also have pics of it all over their website. I think they should do a good job; and they use 3M film+lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

I got an appointment for Sunday..but it'll have to be delayed since my car is in the body shop through monday at LEAST. Getting A-spec kit, accord fogs, and new Type-S tails installed.

Anyone use "computer cut" tint before?

going all out!

I believe all tint is computer cut. meaning that it comes on a roll that they feed on to a machine.
input the dimensions on the computer and the machine cuts the tint perfectly.

as said outside temp does not really matter, it just might take longer to fully dry (and the tint is applied in a heated shop anyways {more then likely }; so the windows and such will be at roughly room temp when it is actually applied)

quanaman, im glad you picked Driven Dynamics, you wont be disappointed! As far as temperature wise, like others said, it will take longer to "dry" compared to putting it on say... in the spring/winter.

When i 1st got tints, it was during late November/December. Average wait time is about 1 week of no-window-rolling-up/down.

Well, I kinda had to, after your recommendation and seeing that they had 25 positive reviews when I googled them, haha.

One more question for you though lol

Did they cut out the area for the brake light or no? I'd much rather have it NOT cut...and I'm assuming they did a good job on the back two quarter windows, right?

then, right before you go to take it in, you need to take apart the third brake light.
have it dangling.

felt that goes over the window seal, so that dirt and other debris wont scratch your tint.

Its basically a piece of felt that goes on the rubber molding on the window. Since our cars have such a tight fit, the tint tends to get scratched when it goes up and down. Moleskin prevents the scratching

They tinted my 3rd brake light, just tell them ahead of time not to

and yes, they did a good job on the rear quarter windows. They actually cover the entire window instead of like 90%

I got my windows tinted 17% all around on Jan 6. It was -9 degrees outside (14 degrees Fahrenheit). A month has gone by and it still has not dried entirely - tint guy said this particular thicker tint may take up to 60 days to completely adhere to the glass. At first I was nervous as it looked like there was bubbling in the rear window - he told me that this was the solution used to apply the tint, and that it would disappear as it dried. It did. I only owned the car for a day when I got it done, and I didn't mention anything about the rear brake light. I was lucky that the guy was a pro and did it properly. I paid $250 cash for mine, and I have yet to find a flaw in the work.

i asked the guy to tint over the 3rd brake light when i had my windows done and he told me the dot matrix that outlines the light would make it look like shit. I took his word for it because my last car had dot matrixs built in the quarter windows and when i had them tinted it looked stupid.

and as far as the moleskin goes, i didnt use it and only one of my windows has scratches in it, and its only noticeable in direct sunlight so im fine with it...
