The reason for OEM glass and genuine Honda replacement is that the windshield is a special, laminated, sound absorbing type. It is not standard safety glass.
I believe your insurance must let you take it wherever you want. It works that way on collision claims. Of course, like health insurers, they are always trying to get you to take the cheapest option. How else can they afford to give the CEO a $40 million bonus?

I'm actually glad they cheaped out and put regular glass in mine at first. It was neat to hear the difference instead of wondering about it. We discovered it's called "acousti glass". It can have a gas or a gel between the layers of glass to absorb and block sound according to the bodyshop guy. Like I said before, surprisingly the bigger difference was in road noise, not wind noise.
I have car ADD
Hey man.. i had a Safelite windshield on my 3G Type-S....just as good as oem.... it also has the "acoustic" sound barrier
Funny thing, i think Safelite is stronger than OEM... every OEM windshield i had on the 3G chipped real easy from a rock on the LIE.... my safelite got hit with, with i believe, to be a rock about 1" wide... took it like a champ, no crack/chip
I used the safelite in Levittown, they took extra care with my car at my request... nice people

Are you sure safelite isn't the OEM manufacturer? We had a guy on this board that stated there are one or two OEM suppliers since Honda/Acura doesn't make their own glass.Originally Posted by BLACKURA_NY

Either way, Safelite is a huge super high quality manufacturer, in fact my GN still has the OEM safelite from the 80s. If you're paying out of pocket, finding the OEM supplier is definately cheaper than a piece of glass with Acura stamped on it even if it's the same exact glass.
Now that I think of it, my new glass that's stamped with Acura seems to be a little more resistant to pitting than the old glass. My old stuff was so bad that when it was clean and the sun hit it just right it would nearly blind me.

Same here, I heard no difference in roadnoise or wind noise. However I only got to rock the none-OEM windshield for 700miles till another rock smashed it. So I didn't get a chance to see if they were different in terms of durability and pitting. Now I have an OEM again, I think the Acura logo made my car go faster..Originally Posted by BLACKURA_NY

Insurance company did say I can take it anywhere I want but of course they try to scare you by saying oh the dealer over charges and we won't pay over this amount yada yada. Meanwhile I went to the dealer and they told me they actually use a company called Suffolk Glass and they can use OEM but it has to be approved. So I called them to find out info and they said no problem for OEM and they go through insurance. So I called insurance company advised them I am using this company and they sent them the authorization and now I am waiting to hear if OEM is approved. If not atleast basedo n what I am hearing here Safelite should be a good alternative. My big concern with the glass is I want it to look the same meaning the tint strip across the top and that black dotted pattern thing behind the rearview mirror. So we'll see what happens.

^yep, u dont need to go to the dealer just to get OEM glass, as the service manager what place they recommend for replacement glass and they give u a few.

It's a city parking lot, right? Tell them you want them to help you replace the windshield because you parked there having taken on good faith their claim that the parking lot was under surveillance, and have been materially harmed by the fact that it was not as-advertised.
Sometimes that actually works and they'll kick in for at least part of the bill.

man, you gotta milk it more than that, go for mental distress, now you can't sleep at night, and can't do your job or go to school because you live in fear of someone destroying your property.Originally Posted by shadowkahn

For my OEM glass replacement, i went with Glass Pros, they replaced it in my driveway [pix in my azine album].
