Extended Warranty Worthwhile?

So my baby is approaching 2 years old and 45,000 miles

Considering picking up an extended warranty before my standard one runs out. You guys think the extended warranty is worthwhile? Debating...especially as i'm considering a new suspension...kinda factoring this into my suspension decision as well...

I have one as well. It is worth it for the electronics alone.

Curry Acura quoted me 1380 for my 04 TL 46000 miles. I went to the dealership and they gave it to me for $1300 with a $50 deductible for 7 yr/100k miles. I would say try your dealership so that you have a good relationship w/ them for the future. You know that everytime you go in for warranty or a new car they know you've been good to them.

No, an extended warranty is not worthwhile. They are a huge profit center for the selling entity as well as the company behind the warranty. The odds are you won't need it and if you do there is a strong possibility they will try to find a way not to cover it. If you seriously considering it READ the fine print before you sign anything. There have been policies written with a lot of exclusions in them and people don't find out about them until they need them.

Until I get ready to sell mine! Heh heh!

I am going to say yes on the warranty. For reasons previously stated. KJSmitty is going to say no. For reasons not stated.
So there. You don't have to now KJ!

Aigh so I got this RARE opportunity. My car is at 53K, last time it was at the acura dealership for service was at 47K... Went to the dealership last week and they said since the last recorded amount was 47K they can still offer me a 4year 100K warranty for 3100.

Here's the dilemma that I'm contemplating... I have AEM intake, Subwoofer install, Nav Screen hack, 19" Axis Milano Wheels... Getting drop springs (comptech) and springs (tokico HP), Progress RSB, ATLP Exhaust, 04-06 Front Aspec Lip, Side Skirts, 07 Type S Rear Aspec Lip Kit... With those mods, is it worth even getting the extended because I have a feeling they will be able to "blame" the failure on the mods...

PLEASE HELP ASAP

Whoa, 3100? did you read my post earlier? I'd bargain them down to much lower.

I'd say that you still have lots of equipment on th car to get warranty. IMHO

Yeah, but considering the fact that I'm actually over the 50K barrier not many people if any would offer a warranty.

Hey Fulani,

Are extended Warranties worth it? If you’re going to keep your car awhile after the factory warranty expires, then the answer is YES. As much as we love or TL, it isn't the most reliable car and that a documented fact! So it breaks down! Take it from some one who has had extended warranties on the last four new vehicles bought and three have have paid off, one big time (New tranny on a 4X4). But to be fair, we "drive" our vehicles so we get our moneys worth from them.

As for the price of $3100, well I would shop around first as this sound a little high but, we purchased all our EWs at the time we bought the Vehicles and the cost was a lot cheaper back then. Remember to read the fine print to see what your paying for!

Now for the aftermarket parts and whether it will affect your warranty. That's a really touchy subject, and it really depends on the relationship you have with the shop and Service Rep your working with. A friend of ours lost an engine in his TL and he had the Comptech SC. Because of the great relationship he had with the dealership, they worked with him and corporate and got the engine replaced and all expenses were covered by the Acura warranty. BTW, the SC did not cause the engine problem, apparently it was having issues before the SC was installed but any other shop could have blamed the SC and our friend would have been the one to prove it wasn’t and if he couldn’t, he would have ate the cost…..over 6 grand for parts and labor!

Now for those thinking there is a law that forces the dealer to honor the warranty even if you have aftermarket parts installed that do not met OEM specs are in for a rude lesson in law! There is a law that a lot of ignorant people think covers their butt and it is called The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, but what it applies to is, aftermarket parts that are of OEM spec used to replace OEM parts and not aftermarket parts outside of OEM spec.

An example would be like using a K&N air filter instead of a Honda air filter or a Fram oil filter verses a Honda oil filter and your engine breaks, these would be covered because they are direct OEM spec replacement parts. Now take your AME intake, since the AME intake is not an OEM replacement for the factory air intake, you could run into a big issue here and the same goes for your 19" Axis Milano Wheels and drop springs. The body kit is OK because it’s OEM. Just remember, any service shop, Dealer or Independent, can refuse service or may require you to prepay for repairs so they don't get caught up in the warranty mess!

Good luck,
CAHobbs

If you have an auto trans TL- get a warranty before it blows!

As for add on parts- they have to prove that part caused a failure somewhere else.
That means lowered cars may get NO coverage on CV issues for example,
but CAI doesnt cause your dash electronics to fail
1700 would be a good deal from acura dealer

Extended Warranty is only worth it if you purchased the MANUFACTURE backed warranty. So if the contract states that it will be covered by Honda then yes it's worth it. My BMW had the extended warranty and I just laughed at the service advisor's face each time my car went in for repair.

"Sir, you need to replace so and so. This is broken. That's broken" I just nodded and said sure do it. When they look carefully at their database and see that I have a bmw extended warranty on the VIN number, the most they can charge me was for the deductible, which was $50.

We also had a Mercedes hat had the extended warranty backed by Mercedes. That one required no deductible. I'll put it this way. The extended warranty costs about $2800 because it was considered the "Gold" warranty (they had different levels). We got rid of the car after the extended warranty expired, which the car was a few months over 7 years (extended warranty was 3 years on top of the original warranty). We've replaced the engine mount (It was a V8 so it broke a lot) about 5 times, a/c compressor was replaced twice, numerous sensors, engine starter, more sensors here and there, faulty seat motor, and a few more numerous things. It was the best thing we bought for the car. lol

I bought it for my TL when I purchased the car and "haggled" the 7 year (84 month) warranty with I think 100k miles for about $1000. I read over the contract and IMO, the Acura one is worth it since it's backed by Honda. Actually if you read even closer, it's actually written off by GMAC. No matter what, if they still use Honda parts. I'll be happy.

I agree in general terms, but up to a certain pricepoint. With a 2 or 3-year old TL, I would hate to gamble and loose on the imfamous tranny issue or some major electronics problem. The dealers will most likely have possession of the car and guess what? $$$bank$$$.

Get Acuracare instead - better reputation and has more at stake in retaining an Acura customer.

well, I purchased mine for 2300, while mileage was 22K for 7 year extended, which includes Acura luxury care.

No deductible, car rental reimbursement, etc..it's just for a piece of mind too if you end up not ever using it.

4 year - 50K for $1300 is def. worth it.

Prices might be quite a bit cheaper than curry. Site is a little confusing though. Need to call them up to verify the terms of the extended warranty...

Do I hear the doubtful winds of an "NBP TL-S" purchase blowing? It is after all your destiny Lee...

LoL. The 4G TL is the possible temptation so far. IF that happens, you know that shiznit's going to stay pearly white.

Hmm Geico's mechanical breakdown coverage huh? I may need to look into that...

I can vouch for them. I went to my local dealer, asked for a sample contract, and compared it to the sample they have on Bernardi's website. They were very close.

I bought it, within 2 weeks, I got my cards/packet in the mail from Acura directly. It is defiantly the factory backed AcuraCare.

Can only be applied within 15k or 15 months of purchase.

Still helps to purchase directly from the dealer so they are less likely to give you hassle if you need to file a claim. May just use them as leverage against a dealer quote.
