no.

i wasted numerous $$$ on extended warranties for Honda products. decided not to do it anymore. i still haven't broken even yet. if it's an "expensive to fix" + "a lot of problems" brand...i might re-think (i'd probably lease BMW or MB anyway). however, my friend just bot an 06 accord V6. i told him not to get it. he lost sleep over not getting it. he went back and paid top $$$$. he sleeps very well now.

so the question is: how much is your insomina worth to you???

From someone who just came from Audi, I jumped at the chance.

I realize that Acura is way more reliable than my Audi, but these days cars likes the TL are so sophisticated that if just one major component (ABS computer, Navigation, Climate Control, Transmission, etc, etc) breaks you would get your money back.

If not, the 2k I paid for the extended warranty made me sleep better at night.

my experiences were that honda stuff (in general. don't flame me for special cases) don't break until after 100K+. how much do i have to pay to cover 150K?

Got the 8 yr 120000 mile for $1620.00

Though it might be a good idea with all the electronics in the car, bluetooth , navi etc.

Asked my dealer to match Curry Acura's pricing so got it for $1620.00. Nice thing though they take 10% down, the balance 90% is billed to your credit card over 18 months. Asked how much lower they would go below in case I paid the entire amount upfront...said they werent making enough money on the deal so it would be the same price even if I paid cash.

I live in AZ, and the heat is notorious for drying out my motormounts. 2 Hondas in 8 years and both required motor mounts outside of the 3 year 36000 period. The extended warranty came in handy then.

i still don't know.....$960 (today's $$$) to buy 20K miles more for the future? some people can put 20K on their car in more or less than a year. and chances are the car is not going to have major problems in that 12 months. i guess if you drive very little miles and bet on time degradation then maybe it's worth it for buying a 8-10 yr ext. warranty. but they are no idiot doing this business. i bet that costs a lot of $$$. barring catastrophe, insurance companies always make $$$ cuz they set the price based on probability and math modeling already. that doesn't mean Vegas don't pay.........question is....are u feeling lucky today? ;-)

I bought my exteneded warranty with my credit union who financed the car.
Sorry to tell you guys this but I got it for 100k on my '05 TL for $590. I compared the details of what the dealer covered with the exteneded warranty vs what my credit union would and I think there were only 3 things missing which werent major to me.

I have extended warranties for both Acuras. I went on to Ebay where Curry Acura sells them on line, ran a copy off and had my local dealer match the price. Are they worth the price? I do believe so. Not sure what a main computer would cost to replace, but I'm sure it is more than the cost of the warranty. Just had a new tranny done on my MDX, as well as front struts, and a few other items covered and it has paid for itself already.

be careful with overly cheap ext warranties.... make sure to look at the fine print well. can you take your car to any shop to get it fixed? do they fix it with no money out of your pocket (just deductible)? or make you pay up front then reimburse you? what bank/company backs the coverage? are they A rated? etc

not saying you didn't get a good one, just there are alot of warranties out there with these negative things at lower prices than great warranties...

Those items were an issue to me. I wasnt going for the cheapest deal I was going for a deal period, just like buying your car from one dealer vs another one and what options or extras comes with it.
I went over the details, because each one was saying or telling me "do they cover this or do they cover that" Which made me ask all the questions and show me what it was in writing.
Like I said before there were 3 things missing which werent major for me in my decision.
1. there is no deductible, or out of pocket expense.
2. I can take my car to any certified shop listed nationwide--which acura dealer was on the list.
3. If it comes to me paying upfront they will reimburse me. I cant think of a case where that would happen, unless its an emergency on the hwy.
4. Its with a credit union, thats whos backing it.

I would trust my credit union more so, since Ive been with them over 8 years.

The nice thing about the Acura warranty is if you never use you can get a refund from Honda.

If you don't use your extended warranty service plan at all, during the full alloted time then you quailify for a refund from Honda

let's say you paid $1600 for it. there is a $150 item needs to be done. would you do it? now that's a dilemma they are betting on. ~10 people withhold their small claims for reasons like that 1 time is enought to pay you back.

probability and human nature = $$$$

Do you have to get the Acura extended warranties when the car is new, or can I wait a few years until the bunmper-bumper is going to expire?

I say it is a waste of money. I have never gotten the extended warranty on any car. save the 1400 or so for tires and brakes.

If you are the type to buy a car and keep it till it is worn out, then maybe it is for you. They say not much can go wrong on hondas prior to 100k.. But this is not a 92 accord. You are paying for basically a 50K warranty and that just adds to the cost of the car.

You must do it b4 it expires.

It goes up a bit after several thousand miles as well.....

I obtained the 5yr/100k due to the fact that I drive a shitload & the 8yr/120k was not available @ the time.

AcuraCare is the best thing ever! It has already saved me $.

$1315 for 7 yr 100,000 mile; $185 for tire and rim protection for upto $2500; $211 for Car Brite - ext paint and int fabric/seat protection for 5 yrs - overkill? maybe but I can sleep better at night; $100/mo extra for garage parking as I live in a apartment complex.

I bought an '05 5AT in August and got the 100K extended Acura warranty for $1,200. With the transmission issue on my '01 CL Type-S, it seemed like a good thing to do.

Remember, a warranty is nothing more than an insurance policy. It's been my experience that when I have insurance, nothing goes wrong, but when I don't have it, the bottom falls out!

$1,200 more on a $32,000 car isn't really that much.

BUT the extended warranty is FULL coverage for 7yrs/70k miles, while the factory warranty is 4yr/50k miles LIMITED warranty
So if you run over a monster pothole and break a mechanical part, it wouldnt be covered under the limited but would be on the full

Either way i found a diff dealership that would do the same warranty for 1100 and the lojack for 950....saving myself a cool $3000 by shopping around for the warranty

I bought an 06 TL on monday and the retail pric eon the 100,000k extended was just north or $2,500. They were going to do it for 30% off which was around $1,750. I told then I did want to get it but didn't want to roll it into the loan so I would save the cash and take a hit on it when I could buy it. They asked me how they could get me to buy it and I told them to make me an offer. The financing girl found a promotion that Honda/Acura was running and I got the 100,000k for 45% off which came to about $1,200. If you are interested in purchasing I would ask if they can do the same for you.

Those prices are bit too expensive. 6 years 100K with $0 deductible from Acura Care, extended warranty from Acura which can be used at any Acura dealers, is $1210 at www.curryacuracare.com. Curry is currently discounting $120, so that will make the price $1090.

When I bought my 06 TL two weeks ago, I took a print out of Curry's price with me and bough 6yr/120K/$0 deductible for $1320.

I had bought Acura Care warranty when I purchased my previous car, TSX, and found it as good as Acura's original 50K warranty.

Well I guess that's one way to look at it... I had lojacks in the past and never paid that much at all. People prey on fears to sell products. I have driven for more years than you are old and in NE land of the potholes. I have lost one tire and rim. I wouldn't say you saved 3000 bucks I would say you paid what they were worth. By the way, the roadways are not always drive at your own risk. The towns have to keep the roads in good shape or they have to pay. I have not collected but I know people who have.

You will later experience if the cost of these items were worth the price.

So the AcuraCare warranty is a Acura warranty? I know it sounds stupid but when I was at the dealership he wanted to sell me a 3rd party warranty. I said I wanted Acura and he said they don't sell them because they start at like 5k and above.

Sounded like he was BSing but I just said OK and didn't get anything.

I have 3k on the car now and need to get something. I put 30k a year on the car so I want to be protected up to 120k.

If I buy from curryacuracare.com I can then bring my car to any Acura dealership? Or will they say oh we don't take this warranty.

Anybody have the warranty and bring it to Acura for repairs and they take it wihout bitching? Also anybody have a promo code. They want 1410 for 6year 120k.

Thanks!

I thought about the extended warranty, but decided against it for 2 warranties:

1) It's a honda.. it if were a ford then I was by 6 or 7 warranties, heh.
2) Most problems with a car happen when it's brand new or toward the end of its life. (same with people in the most health problems are when you are very young or old). Anyway, the extended warranty essentially warranties the average time when a car has had all initial problems fixed and it will be a while before any more defects were to show up. If you want to get a real value, try asking for a warranty to cover the 150k-200k millage, heh (for you stats majors, try seeing the likelihood of repair over time as a reverse bell curve).

cblackburn is right on the money. Extended warranties are not necessary for a reliable brand like Acura and usually aren't worth the cost.

You can use Acura Care at any Acura dealer.

I bought my TSX at Downey Acura. Since then, I took my TSX to Valencia Acura for most services and all services after I went over 50K miles. Valencia Acura did not give me any problem for using Acura Care. There was no paper work involved.

Just fill out the form at Curry's web site to get a promotion code.

I also drive about 30K a year. I bought 120K miles coverage, so that I will have at least four years of warranty coverage.

For Acura Care I paid $1365 for 7 yr/100,000 miles with $0 deductible on my 05 TL purchased back in May 2005. I bought the extended warranty at the time of purchase of the car since they said it would be cheaper than if I wanted it later.

If history is any indicator, I tend to buy and hold my car for about 10 years. Once the car is starting to have serious issues, then I trade the car in on a new car.

If you are the type of person that trades their car every few years and do not put more than ~ 17,000 miles per year. Then I would skip the extended warranty.

cash value acura care

out of curiosity, i called ahfc to check on the cash value of my 5yr/100,000 warranty that i purchased from curry on april16, 2004 for 960.00. presently i have 28,650 miles on my 04tl/navi. i listed my car for sale, hoping to get my price so i could build a new one. after 3 days of ads. in the springfield,il. journal, not one call. anyway, the cash value was 600.00. this provides me some wiggle room in the case i had a potential buyer.

And I thought *I* got fleeced for $2500 on my $0 deductible, 7/100k AcuraCare warranty! I got it on my 2000 TL because the finance guy said my lender *required* it since I bought Certified Pre-Owned with 41k on the clock.. Of course I found out later that the *requirement* was a lie, but in return I simply MADE SURE that the warranty paid for itself: $700 new stereo when mine wouldn't play CDs, $300 heated seat element repaired, $200 seat track replacement when the driver seat was rocking back and forth, $300 cooling fan replacement, and those are just from memory. There were a handful of things that added up to a smidge over that $2500. The nicest feeling was being able to roll up at 62,000 miles and say "check this out for me" knowing there'd be a no-charge repair, while I tooled around in one of their spanking-new TSX or RSX loaners for a day or two. I was part of the tranny recall at 96,000 miles, so my warranty wouldn't have helpd even with that since Acura picked up the tab.

So when you guys say "It's a Honda, why worry" don't fool yourselves. Honda/Acura dealers have repair facilities for more than just oil changes, you know! As for my advice, I'd say skip it, and put the same money into an interest-bearing account of some sort. That way, if you need repairs, you have the cash. If not, use that cash to take a vacation or reward yourself for NOT buying an insurance policy you didn't need.
