To everyone with painted grill

Did any of you have to take the bumper off to remove the grill?
In reality I just want the three parts to get painted:
- the top part, which is on the hood
- the middle piece
- the molding around the whole grill.
I know I can remove the top and the mid piece, but can I remove the molding to?
I want to get them pained just like the were body color on 2003 CL

Thanks

You can do 1 of 2 things... Remove front bumper to gain access or tape off the areas you wish to not paint and paint them that way...

I will post pics when I get home

I wouldn't shortcut on this. Removing the bumper and taking the grille apart is better. It's not as hard as it seems. Might cost you a couple extra hours of work but you'll get a better result

That's like 3 hours and a couple minutes in Newbie time - assuming no ER and/or Parts Store visits.

I better wait until the days get longer.

lol 18 min? Maybe I'll believe it, you must have been using power tools. For me, Mr. Average over here, I timed myself yesterday afternoon. I too have taken my bumper off multiple times and I removed my bumper and headlights. It took me 1hr.

wow that looks scary painting it with it still on the car. It came out really nice though! What kind of paint did you use? Any problems with chipping or flaking/peeling?

What the hell????

Did you take a coffee break or something... it take me less than 10 minutes to take mine off...

Well... 'cause I invested in a bodyshop professional plastic clip remover tool... 'cause sometimes only one clip can take 18.235 minutes to remove...

SteveP66 actually has proved that it's possible to remove the front grille without taking off the bumper. Give him a shout or look up the Grille Posts and you'll see what I mean!

it was a pro job... the mesh behind the grille was covered aswell... so it is still that grey dull non painted color

as for chipping flaking or anything of that sort none watsoever ( ) cuz a pebble could do some damage

as for the color of the paint it is NBP... the very same paint used on Evaders nbp when he got into his accident

ahmad hooked me up kid... it looks like it came like that out of the lot

it was 4.99 a bottle for a 5oz can. i used about three for the entire grille, however i think i am just going to buy regular black spray paint and do it with that. I dont like how the grille looks with the NBP paint that i bought it just looks kinda weird.

i bought it from kragen auto parts.

i did not put a clear coat and did primer it before reading the directions how it said this paint might eat away or mess up most primers so that might be the case.

if you decide to try it out without primer let me know how it looks.

ha, ya i just want it to look good! I am actually all done with it now and what i did applied 3 coats of NBP paint. no clear coat. let the paint sit and cure for a couple days. at first i liked it cuz it was at night and looked really good, but the next day in the sun it looked terrible. you could see all of the nasty texture from the paint and it was not smooth at all. anyways i ended up buying some rubbing compound and used that on it. I got the newly painted parts wet and then just rubbed a way in back and forth motions and it took out all of the nasty texture and really smoothed it out. I am now loving it! haha
