E-brake
E-brake
is it just me or is anyone else bothered by the fact that the e-brake is on the right side of the cupholders. all the cars i've seen have the ebrake closer to the driver for easier access. for people who dont use the ebrake its not a big deal but sometimes i would reach over and if i have a passenger, i might accidently touch them. (though if its a girl then it'd be a good excuse)
the honda accord, which the tl is based on, has the ebrake on the left side of the cupholders, but the tl has it opposite. my friend once thought that maybe because it was designed for right hand drive cars, but then later i realized the tl is only made in north america.

I do that on purpose....but to women in the ages of 18-26 yrs old. But regarding the question, I also sort of wished it was on the driver side but no biggie..i got used to it being on the passenger side.
If it's too far away for you and you're worried about making physical contact with your passenger, just politely ask them to engage the e-brake for you when you park.

Many cars that are designed as right-hand drive have the ebrakes on the right side of the shifter. Being that ours is not JDM, that might not be the actual case, but food for thought.
+1 I think I'd rather have it out of the way for the 99% of the time that I'm in the car and DON'T have a need to pull it, and just reach over for that 1% of the time that I'm applying/releasing it.
i wonder how hard it'll be to switch the ebrake over to the other side. seems like all that would need to be done is have new mounting holes on the bottom, and somehow flip the cupholder trim around?
i can reach it just fine, i was just curious as to why acura did that. like i said before, if its a cutie in my passenger seat i dont mind having the ebrake there

This thread makes me LOL. You realize you're talking about reaching an extra 3-4 inches to access the e-brake, right?

I dont normally drive my car.
Tonight, I got in and thought of this thread, as I grabbed the parking brake release.
Here are my thoughts:
It's a parking brake, not an emergency brake.
Like one poster said, you only use it two times per trip.
The brakes and VSA system is smart as well as strong, will allow you to escape any emergency within the car's limit.

Doesn't bother me one bit and sometimes I do touch my passenger but IDC if they don't lol. Anyway I personally like it on the right side. That way I'm not fumbling trying to spill my drink over myself because there's a ledge there from the e-brake ..but that too is being lazy if I'm complaining about it lol.
I had 2 Accords before I got my TL and they were both on the left. I guess I had just gotten used to it so when I got my TL it felt so weird having it on the right side. But now it's just normal and I don't mind it at all. I actually kinda like it over there because it doesn't get in my way of the cupholders or anything.
we DO NOT have a rear climate control, only rear a/c vents that send air from the front to the rear. and the vents are on both sides of the center console. so this has nothing to do with the e-brake.

I've never even noticed it's on the passenger side until I saw this thread and I use it pretty often when letting people demo the stereo. IMO it gives more room on the driver's side. No big deal either way. I like the Porsches I've driven with the e-brake on the left side of the driver's seat. For a manual I prefer this setup. On an auto I like the Tl's setup and I hate pedal e-brakes for several reasons.
