Dumbfounded on 05-08 TL's

I'm in the gist of purchasing a new TL and I and I'm lost! I don't get it...The 2005 TL has 270hp, and the 2006-08 have 258hp. Am I missing something here? I know features were upgraded, but doesn't it make more sense to get a 2005 with all due respect? Or was there a issue with the 2005 TL 270hp being the reason Acura downgraded to 258hp the following year.

They all have 258hp. Acura changed the way it reported horsepower in 2006. Only the TL-S has a different hp rating @ 289hp.

This thread might explain in more detail:

Torque steer is a very controversial topic here. You'll get mixed opinions.

If you want to test for torque steer, you simply let go of the wheel at a standstill, and then hit the accelerator and watch the steering wheel to see if it jerks one way or the other.

Try to find out if it's a late model 05, rather than early model. The later model 05 has the better transmission in it.

Post up some pics if/when you get it!

torque steer isn't a problem unless you let go of the wheel and punch it. the 06 TL's got a torque limit system which cuts torque output in first and second gear to help stop torque steer for the older folks who buy the TL.

Is the torque limiting disabled when the VSA is turned off?

No idea, my guess is it's hardwired into the ECU...

.....not to hijack the thread, but I thought it was in the Manual trans. Something about shifting into third gear?

I think I asked about it in my very first post....

The 3d gear issue is with the manual transmissions-- some owners have had issues with the transmission popping out of gear or not shifting well in 3d gear-- which was alleviated by switching to either a GM transmission fluid or different trans fluid formulation.

The '06 has a tire pressure monitoring system which the '05 does not have.

Good luck on your search! I think the only people who have problems with torque steer are those that come from RWD or AWD cars (like myself). It is very different for me to have the car pulling one way or the other during WOT. It definitely makes acceleration more exciting (that's the way I am looking at it lol)! I miss AWD... notes to self are that next car should be Turbo AWD.

Well despite what Will Y said numerous people have reported problems with the auto trans on 04-05 models, including myself personally. See the following thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/04-auto-transmission-worries-new-user-forum-637673/
There have been other threads as well. Each transmission, be it auto or manual, can have problems and should be looked at and test driven before purchased.
