The service manual just shows an arrow rotating counterclockwise, with no additional comment.

Everything I have read here said that it is very hard to twist off, but it will not break the shift lever and just turn until it comes off.

Can't remember if it was Acura or Nissan, but I do recall we broke a few trying to get them off. I'm pretty sure it was Nissan, possibly a Sentra or Altima.

It's pretty hard turn it with great force and it screws off...to put mom and align the alan srews is a big deal as I read..have not done myself yet...wating for Evo F16 Carbon with Aluminium they've got only titanium as yet. Which one are you putting?

That's encouraging. I hope you are right about the Nissan.

I remember now that it is just as hard to get the new one on and in the correct position, especially with aftermarket replacements which need to be in a certain position to look and feel right.

Yeah, it was a Nissan. The ironic thing was that we weren't taking the shift knobs off to replace them, but to replace the shifter boots that were coming apart.

It sounds like a big hassel. the momo knob is the combat one I think it is called it is leather with a center of silver painted on it looks quite nice It would look nice with the ebony interior I think. I may end up selling it as i really don't want to struggle putting it on

I pulled mine off while driving just for the hell of it.

Grip the Silver ring just above the leather boot with 2 fingers and pull it down towards the floor. It should pop out of the bottom of the Shift knob as its held in with 2 plastic pressure clips.

With the Boot seperated from the knob, twist the knob counter clockwise. You definately have to use some serious pressure to get it started. Then it gets gradually easier.

no leather boot it is a slush box. I have a spare auto knob and the silver thing does not separate from the knob itself. I have to be at the dealer tomorrow anyway( wing install) I'll see if they have any words of wisdom

I think it should just twist off. Go on, give it hell, it's still under warranty right?

If you're talking about the 5AT shift knob, it does screw off, it's a little hard to get started, but it does screw off. I removed mine and replaced it with a MOMO Combat Evo AirMetal shift knob.

I already did mine as well, I just keep turning the knob counter-clockwise, it took me like 5 min. The first few turns are tough but it will eventually loosen up.

I put this one as a replacement

Having issues getting my Mom F16 Evo on or more specifically the original off. Twisted the shift knob and got it pretty easy. Down to the column w threads on the top. Looks like I have to remove the silver piece from the bottom of the knob and screw that to the bottom of the Momo. There's a similarly sized piece on the bottom of the Momo knob but it's way too big. Any help on seperating the two pieces of the original knob? Some trick I'm missing. It rotates about 10 degrees pretty easy and then nothing.

Nevermind, found the rest of the parts and destructions in the back of the box and all of a sudden it became clear as mud.

Looks sweet!
