Downshift speed...

When driving at, say, 55 or 60, if I floor it to pass, there is often a delay between the first shift down, and the second (or third)
Like the car isn't sure it wants to drop that extra gear yet.
Its not slipping, the fluid is new, and its Redline, and my pressure switches have been replaced. And ideas? Could it be the TPS?

i thinks it a combo of drive by wire lag and the transmission lagging also.

Mine does this as well. Unfortunately, the trans won't do a double downshift, only one at a time. What I have noticed is if I drive it pretty easy for a long time where when I get on the gas, only one downshift is usually required it learns this. If I floor it after driving it easy all the time it downshifts one gear and after a second, another gear. If I drive it aggressive all the time it there is much less delay. So while I'm pretty sure the trans is limited to a single downshift at a time, I think it can be sped up by resetting the ECU or driving aggressively all the time.

If it is essential for you to accelerate that quickly to pass another car I would use manual mode.

I hardly ever use manual mode, so I forget to use it. I guess I could just put it into "L"

That's what I'd say too.

Anticipate your action, put it in the manu-matic mode, hit the lever 2x as you mash the gas, and off you go.

I thought traditional (torque converter) automatics only shift one gear at a time,, so it'd be 5-4-3 so delay???
I don't recommend this, but I floor the gas a split second early.

Say, I wanna pass this car,,,,,, NOW!
then I'd step on it at the second last comma lol..

NOT RECOMMENDED,, but I do it and it only takes a few tries to get the timing dead on.

Some like my GN will do a double or triple downshift at once. I can be crusing along in 4th and hit 1st or 2nd immediately without hitting 3rd first. The TL does get a lot quicker if you drive it hard a lot but you're right, in the TL's case and most automatics you're stuck with one gear at a time. The older cars seemed to be better in this respect.

I've also found that it is a lot easier to pass someone when you're already doing 65 mph. I use the manual every now and then, but usually I can just coast pass someone without having to floor it.
