A Christmas Gift from a complete stranger..

Isn't it wonderful how some people will just up and give you a gift for the holidays without asking for anything in return? Such an act was unexpected, undeserved, and completely unselfish. He/She didn't even leave a card so that I may contact them and say "THANKS YOU” kind citizen…

You go to the mall to do some last minute shopping, park way out on the perimeter of the lot as always, but it’s the Holidays, and even the most remote areas of the parking lot are packed with the vehicles of kind and caring individuals, chock full of Holiday Spirit. And then… when you come home, you find that some wonderful specimen of humanity gave you a little something extra for the holidays. I love the holidays, people giving and sharing. And yet, they want nothing in return, not even recognition for such a deed.

Best of all, it's the gift that keeps on giving. My time, my deductible, phone calls, paperwork. And best of all… I get to be without my ride for a few days.

Ahhh, the season of giving.

My sympathies, man! There is no shortage of such jerks in the world, unfortunately. My previous car was hit by someone while parked on the road who didnt leave a message.

Lakeside. I live out in Shelby Township. I had backed into the parking space, and when I came out I noticed the spot next to me (passenger side) was empty. I only noticed it because per usual I couldn't park in a spot with a curb or then end of an aisle on one side. So I was happy to see no one was parked there. 50% less chance for door dings. When I got home I got out like I always to, but moved to the other side of the garage to get some washer fluid, instead of going right into the house (the door to the house is right in front of the car, so I would've missed it has I not needed the fluid) And as I turned back around form the shelves my heart sank.

My best guess after assessing the damage is that it was a pickup or SUV. Something with a high, solid bumper. And they most likely were across the aisle from me. When backing out they saw the empty spot next to me, and figured they’d use it for a little extra help regarding the turning radius. The hit is direct, almost like the slid, perfectly parallel, right down the front of the car. It didn’t come in from an angle at all. Lie most of these types of things are. There's the damage to the fascia (that dark outlined mark is a deep gouge, probably Ľ deep at least, with 3 or 4 smaller gouges above it. But the fascia gave way (flexible,) that is until they got to the steel fender in which case they just crushed it.

My brother-in-law is in the business and works out of a body and paint shop at Telegraph and 8 mile. So he'll be taking care of it for me. They do really good work as it is. But having someone on the inside, guarantees that it’ll get done right. And no cheap ass parts will be used. I might even be able to get them to repaint the hood in order to get rid of the paint chips.

Man, that sucks ass. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some chic in a truck or SUV too big for her. Now I'm not hating on small ladies in big trucks, but I've seen too many women in big ass trucks and SUV's hitting other cars with those behemoths, so 51% of the time I bet it's these women that do this kind of shit.

Sorry about your baby. I've had stuff like this happen to me in my old car, but never that bad. I have a lot of friends (fellow mom's) that drive big SUV's, (Yukon Denali's and such) and I have never been able to understand WHY they'd want to do so. One just traded hers in for an MDX. She's so happy! Much easier to drive, and she's got a back up video camera. Super Cool!
I hope your car is back in excellent shape soon!
Happy New Year! :-)

Check to see if your mall had some CC cams. They might show who parked next to you.

I used to do that... people thought I was being really anal. And then the day I didn't someone scratched the bumper as they were turning into the spot next to mine. Not only that, but they came out and wiped their paint off. Classic assholes.

Fortunately it was a loaner car and the dealer took the hit -- they were kind enough not to file it through my insurance even though it was completely my responsibility.

I cannot believe how many people here have been whacked in parking lots and the WHACKER did not stop and leave a note or whatever...

It boggles my mind....

f I whacked someone I would leave a note or something... People are unbelieveable...

I got backed into a my work parking lot (02 Accord) by a work truck doing lawns and the like and they came in and said they had hit my car and would take care of everything. They did and all was well... I guess I got lucky.

I feel your pain, but having friends in the repair shop will guarantee you get your baby fixed perfectly. Try the security video camera's at the mall...you might get lucky and find the culpret. Hope the New Year brings you better luck.

not always true. a lot of times money isnt an issue to those people. a nice car is just something they naturally have and will go fix it or get a new one so they dont care. usually the nice cars at the mall are a woman who's husband makes the money and they spend it. they could care less about their benz.

i park next to a new accord, camry, etc. because you know that that person worked hard to make those payments and they dont want to see their new car get dinged.

Bummer Man!

These kind of incidents often lead one to wonder if the person who decided to rearrange your rides front end was carrying any insurance, or if they couldn't afford to pay for any rate increases if they owned up too their accident.

It's not like you were a willing participant in this.

Hope you get your TL back in tip top shape soon.

I checked with the mall security. and they do have cameras, lots of them. But I had parked way at the end of the aisle, and there's no camera coverage out there. So I'm SOL...

i think i'm gonna start taking license plates of the cars parked next to me from now on. and u should follow up on this - it would be SO beautiful to catch the person who did this. It would be PRICELESS.

holiday season my assssss - its a big commercial fkuc fest - there are no holidays anymore. the fact that someone would be selfish enough to do such a thing without leaving a note proves my point. If people really were in the holiday spirit, you would've gotten a note and ur problem would've been taken care of by the idiot who did it.

society is hypocritical - but let me not get started.

I try my best to park next to expensive cars cause most likely they care about their car and are as carefull as possible while leaving the parking lot.

Bob, I'm worse than that. If I HAVE to park next to other cars, as I sometimes do, I take a picture of the cars around me with my V600 camera phone showing the tag numbers of the vehicles.

When I come back, if my car is undamaged, I erase the pictures. BTW, they have the time and date stamped on them.

At least if I get damaged, I will have a good idea who to go after.

ROCK DOG: Sorry for your pain. You have my sympathies.
