Carbon fiber wrap on hood/trunk/roof?

i was looking at some pictures of TL's with carbon fiber wrap on the hood, roof, and trunk lid and was wondering if anyone could help me out with the logistics of putting it on correctly and the cons of this project...thanks!

IMO, stop at the roof. Buy a CF hood and leave the trunk alone-----or get a reproduced CF-trunk.

The steps are relatively easy---just repetitive and tedious.
I'll get to that in a bit, dinner time.

But there's someone on the forum with an overlayed roof. I forgot his forum name, I'm a horrible Aziner =p

Vinyl can be a pain in the ass. All you need is heat, patience and a buddy to help because when you're applying that much vinyl it would be a real pain by yourself. It's similar to window tint if you've ever done it. I'll bet if you google 3m dinoc video it would bring up something that you're looking for. Love the GTR in your avatar.

first off, that's a beautifully restored GTR you have. the words "I'm jealous" don't even begin to explain...

second, for the roof sure go ahead. as far as the hood/trunk Don't Fake the Funk(if you know what I mean)

...

i just recently bought my NBP TL. the previous owner had carbon wrapped the hood/roof and trunk.....by the time it got to me the roof and trunk was taken off...however the hood is still in wrap....

im waiting for this winter to pass before i rip it off....to me it looks very cheap. if you wanted carbon then just spend the money and buy a carbon hood!! i think i depends on the color of your car....if you had white or silver i guess it would look good only on the roof but i still wouldnnt do it, not really my thing....

The previous owner told me he wrapped it because his hood had some scratches which led him to wrap it instead of painting it...he then wrapped everything else..

my plans is to take it off in spring and i'll probably have it repainted along with my whole front because i has some scratches and rock chips...

if you also have NBP, i would be willing to trade you!

here are some pics...enjoy!!

Thanks! i really enjoy when people appreciate the classics, I wish i had owned it from the very beginning of the restoration but the satisfaction of doing 80% of it is still well worth the time and money.

As for the carbon fiber wrap, I am going to look into doing the hood as far as money and durability are concerned. Seeing as this is not my project car, I am probably not going to be willing to drop the cash to get the carbon fiber trunk and hood; just looking to spice it up a little haha.

let me try to get you off this one more time....im not exactly sure how much it will cost for the material for the hood, but if you factor in the time and the chance it might not turn out good i would just buy a carbon hood...that way down the road if you ever wanted to go back you have something to go back too and sell off the hood...

when i was searching for my tl, i looked on craigslist in Indiana...there is a performance store there selling these on craigslist for 400....you may be able to deal and get it cheaper then that...

when your far away it looks carbon but when your close you can clearly tell its wrap.....

in the end, its really up to you!!

I got a nbp tl and i was thinking what if i use transperent carbon fiber vinyl wrap would it give it more of a real carbon fiber look since you would still get the gloss from the paint....
Hmmmm got me thinking

Please stop thinking. Fake carbon fiber looks bad on pretty much anything. It's a double whammy on a black car. And I don't understand how any vinyl wrap can be both transparent and "carbon fiber" simultaneously.

Spend the time and money detailing your car instead.
