BMW kills a 3G TL (video inside)

It takes a while to get to the part with the Acura TL, but these guys in a bimmer just flys by the TL (they also talk about how how fast it can really go),

I was thinking the same thing. Although that BMW hit 140mph with ease.

That is definetly not a race. The BMW was already traveling at a faster speed than the Acura

This video is a joke, you guys said it all. The Acura driver was not even trying. He was just cutting through traffic which does not mean the guy is racing. That BMW is a nice car, as long as its not a 335i or an M3 that BMW does not have a chance against a TL. I have raced a 2007 BMW 328i and it was fast but not as fast as the TL. These two guys were checking out the BMW, testing the engine, accel, brakes and stuff. The guy in the BMW cuts everyone and ends up braking at a red light but he is at the front and guess what I am right behind him. When it hits green he is off and the road was aprox a 1/4mile stretch so he just kills his engine. All I can say is when I hit 160km/h he started to brake because I was already a car and a half ahead of him, he was too embarassed. Ha ha ha ha. I will say this the second time that the TL is amazing at picking up speed after it reaches 100km/h +.

328 is a 230hp car sa no wonder you won in high end (you're 258 hp, right).
All in one 0-60 mph 328 hangs on pretty good with a TL auto transmission but will loose after 120 km/hr. You forgot to add to your list BMW 545i, 550i, 750i and even 745i.

Actually is fairly fast too, it's a 6sec 0-60 mph and 14.3 sec 1/4 mile. I've just got my 745i a few weeks ago and I'll take it to the drag strip in couple of weeks. It's heavy indeed, 4400 pounds car.

Who are you? Are you the one who drove that BMW and posting this?

What model is that BMW exactly?

The driver in the TL wasn't at it. He/she didn't look like was trying to race you. It looked like just cruising. On the other hand, the BMW driver was determined, to go the max. Be careful now.. the standard TL's(3rd gen) top speed is 152 mph. The TL pulls even harder at high end.

Not trying to make excuses of why the BMW "beat" the TL..but anyone notice the new license plate? Hell..if I had a new car and some idiot blasted by me going +100 mph, I wouldn't push it. I would'nt of even gone past 65mph. Maybe after 600 miles..but not w/ the dealer plates. So if that's an excuse of why the guy didn't push it...yea you got it from me. And if he wanted to race, the guy should've lined up w/ it atleast. What an idiot for blowing past him and saying he won.

The subject of the thread should've been "3G TL "kills" a BMW".

Now this guy is determined.

Hey Nikko I know what you mean by the other BMW's like the 545 and 7 series and so on. Those cars will definitely eat up a TL but the reason I mentioned the 3 series was because the car in the video looked like a 3 series. But still those BMW's have powerful engines and BMW does emphasize on performance compared to there rivals like Mercedes and Audi.

Just because I post it you think it's me...well that's not me buddy. I have a 06 TL non-navi. No way I could keep up with the maintenance bills on BMWs. Initially it appeared that the TL driver was racing, but I guess I was wrong.

That video was absolutely pointless.... Any car can travel at the speed above 100. Once you hit 110 and up, it feels around the same. It's not even a race lmao...

I'd smoke that car from all speed

thanks for posting though..

indeed... I was inspired by it. He did a good job recording it too, considering he used a hand-held camera.

I've race my homeboy's M3 and we went from like 70ish up to 120+ on the way to one of our homie house. He put 3 cars on me up to 120+ mph . The M3 is superior but it doesn't destroy the 04-07 TL. To be totally honest I was surprise how close I stay behind him. His tranny is an SMG and I'm auto. True Story!

Yes, his is. But the top speed is still the same with stock. The first link I posted here is with the standard TL 5AT, shows how well it pulls up to 152, and stop due to a fuel cut off.

good.

good for you, and glad you did well.

now imagine if yours was a 6MT. You can give the guy on the 3M real good work out. He'll sweat!

He was also new to his M3 and didn't know how to turn off his traction control and how to adjust his shifting speed/sensitivity. After he had his car for a week I went for a ride in that M3 after he learn the stuff I mention above. Let me tell you that thing has crazy torque. That freaking thing pulls so much harder than my Z I use to own and by far harder than the TL.

I also meant to tell ya'll I ran he from a dig and I got the jump but he caught me before I made it to 80mph and he pass me hard as hell. If I had to figure it from 0-120 mph he could of put 2+ bus lengths on me....seriously!

Far harder than the TL "5AT".

You can't say the same with the TL 6MT. The car is also lighter and there is a less power is lost in the manual transmission. You need to try driving the 6MT version. Hope you have really good shift/clutching skills.

An 5AT TL with shift paddle and VSA On, you'll get the worst performance.

If driven perfectly on a perfect conditioned TL 6MT the driver won't get beaten by 2+ bus lengths. More like 2 car lengths at quarter mile, maybe. The TL 6MT runs 0-60 in best time of 5.7 sec. Quarter mile time of 14.0~ 14.2 sec.

what I am tired of reading is that just because people drove their AT doesn't mean it is the same as the 6MT. I gave you compliments earlier. Try standing up for the TL, and stop praising the BMW M3 cars too much.

No offense man but a properly driven 2003 M3 would put most likely 8-10 cls on a 3G TL stick and stock (.1sec= approx 1cl). 2003 M3 runs 13.1 1/4 mile@107mph and 0-60mph in 4.5-4.8 sec.

I thought it was more like .2 sec = 1 car length.

Are you sure about your numbers???

4.5 sec? Are you exaggerating? I have not seen 4.5 sec out of a stock M3.

4.5 sec is not possible with 333 bhp. You need at least 400 bhp to do that. 2008 M3 should be capable of 4.5 sec as well as the current RS4.

Regarding these numbers see the link.
Ppl. in this forum tend to use .1sec=1cl but on the other hand you might be right.

That depends on what speed the cars are timed at. Try your numbers again for that quarter mile run. Hope you got the calculator ready.
