Blank Switch

This has, naturally, been bugging me since I discovered it, a blank switch on my Base '08 TL.

I shoulda posted a picture of it, but bear with me, since we all know the 3G so well should be able to figure it out. It's part of the cluster that contains the side-mirror controls/heaters and VSA button, which is on the lower left-hand side of the dash next to the wheel:

On the right side of this cluster (not shown in the picture) is a blank insert. On another car I'd shrug, but everybody knows the TL came loaded, except for Navi, which mine doesn't have. Ergo, that blank insert must have something to do with the navi system, but what? Or is it something else?

nothing was really meant to go there, many folks use that spot to mount a modified VSA switch to control stuff such as DVD player on Navi, stealth radar detector install power switch, etc.

Don't overthink it. TL's with navigation also have the same blank spot. Nothing is supposed to go there. I put the gain control for my sub there.

Nothing goes there. I have a 08 TL w/ navi and it also has the blank cut out. My moms 07 Accord also has the blank cut out. In her car we used the blank cut out to add a fog light switch and wired up OEM fog lights for her car because they didn't come with it.

In the TL many people use it for many different things.

Thanks for the replies, that's interesting. I wonder how this blank switch happened? Perhaps Acura intended to put the foglights there, but ended up putting them on the stalk instead? Or maybe when the engineers designed that cluster, they added another button just in case and because of symmetry?

Either way, that's pretty handy to have a blank cut out, gives an owner lots of flexibility.

You're right Dunnik. It's handy I wish all of my past cars had a blank spot to put something because it looks a lot cleaner.

I dont understand why they made it 1 piece with the surroundings though, if it's really a blank "button" shouldnt it be a piece that you can pop out?

I know for 04-06 TL you can add a independent fog light switch in that spot or add a separate switch lower grille fog light
