To go along with my post above here are a couple pics I just took of my tint job. 35% all around and I think it looks perfect. I always went darker on my other cars and im just not into that pitch black look anymore. I think 35 is all around a great choice for me. Here are pictures showing the rear window strip un-tinted. I might not even bother taking it back as since the tint is a little lighter its really not that noticeable. What do you guys think?

I think 20% would look better with your paint

Are you sure those are 35% tint? My car on page 1 is 35% and looks wayyyyyyyyyy darker than the tint on your car.

I forgot to ask did you get ceramic tint? I remember my tinter telling me that the ceramics (or his huper optik ceramic) tint have a more neutral color and doesn't look as dark.

If that's how light it looks like in your garage, it prolly looks non existent in daylight. If you did 20% on the rear windshield leaving the rest 35%, I can almost guarantee that you would like your tint shade better. I can't accept that type of job on the rear quarter, so I guess its a personal thing, if you can deal then why cause ageda for yourself by going back, you know they are just going to give you some run around and raise your BP.

nah, take it back and ask if they can do it right, get those quarters redone correctly. if they say no then you might live with it. it will look better under the molding.

30-35% is perfect. daytime gives the shadow view, but at night seeing inside is a tad more difficult.

maybe when they said "its 35%" they quoted light blocking instead of light emittance?? it does kinda look like a 65% film.

just a fyi to all. tint % is % emittance, hence a 20% is darker than a 35%, etc.

for folks getting tint for the 1st time, always ask to see a 20% vs. a 40 or 50% film, this way you know for sure they are quoting the % correctly.

I never encountered a place that quotes tint %'s backwards.. if they do, then its news to me. The standard convention is to quote it in emittance. His 35% looks exactly like it should, because he has light grey interior. I have 15% all around with parchment and there are people with 20% all around with ebony interior and their cars appear darker.

So his 35% looks like it should.

As I read this thread I realizing more and more how bad my tint job is. Today at lunch time I parked near a '04-'05 WDP TL which really made me see how shoddy mine is. Looks good at a distance, but close up you can easily see the shoddy work. I'm just in search of a good shop in the Wash DC area and I can't wait to get a good professional tint job.

Yes mine is 35% and outside of the garage in the daylight it looks perfect!!! And about the "non existent" comment someone said they actually look maybe even darker out in the sunlight. IMO the perfect shade of tint.

^^^ question... how does the 35% feel in the sun, does it feel less hot ? cuz i dont see a reason for getting tint that light unless you just want a minimum heat blocker. i can see right through the windows of my friends who have 35% and i see no point in it except unless it makes the car a bit cooler. but yeahs, i suggest if anyone is to get their car redone, ask first off if they do hand cuts or computer cuts. cuz computer cuts is soo much cleaner!

I'm WDP with 20% on the read window, and 35% on the sides... I love it.

Do you want to see if you will get pulled over by the cops? Put on a seat belt, close your door with windows rolled up. Now ask your friend to stand behind your car and look into your side view mirror; this is what cops do, if they can't see you in the side view mirror...you are getting pulled over.

Alright im not sure why people say the 35% is soo light that it doesnt do anything. The windows are very dark especially outside to where all you see through them would be a dark outline of whatever your looking at. From inside the car it looks perfect adds a nice touch and definetaly blocks out the sun.

^^ I do not understand how it will look darker outside in the sun, thats the first I've heard of such a thing... defying all conventional laws of light transmission. If it does then cool. Seems like my "non existent" comment rubbed you the wrong way, don't let it, I was just being straight forward which is how I am. We all know everyone has different preferences, and at the end all that matters is that each one of us is satisfied with our own choices.

You should post a pic so that people actually see that 20 and 35 blending does not look bad. So many people shy away from it because they think its going to look retarded, and its the opposite. It looks bad ass on a car with dark interior. However you can't apply the same logic to 15 and 20, it looks retarded. I've experimented with so much tinting, its not even funny. .LoL.

some film brands will block slightly more UV crud as they get darker. the UV blocker is usually not the dye, its other stuff that they put on the film. most films block much of the bad stuff no matter the darkness, etc.

so in retrospect, a Huper Optik 100% can still block 99.9% of the bad stuff.

I got mine done with the same rear quarter issue. The guy said the "No tool" can get there. I was so frustrated, but luckily the same company (Executive Tint in houston) had another location. I went there, showed them the job that was done, the guy was like o no, they did not do it right and re did the rear quarter panel.
I was so relieved. I had paid 400 bucks for this new ceramic film that blocks 92% of heat.( Its called Black Max Ceramic)
I got 20% in front and 10% all around.
Then I went back to them and got my wind shield tinted with 60%, same heat reduction and the almost clear look which keeps the cops away. Now the car feels so damn cool, even in houston. (Yesterday we had 100+ degrees here).

wow.. good deal.. I have to try that out.. how much in all including the windshield. I really like my tint now but I've been mulling over the ceramic tints because of the hot TX weather.. we had around 40 days of 100+ last year, so I definitely hear you on the issue.

Well, If I had gone with the entire package, all around windows plus the windshield I could have saved more, but I decided on the windshield on the second visit with the other folks who fixed my rear quarter panels. So all together it was 350(all around) + 125(windshield) = 475.
Regurlar prices were 499 + 199 but I was able to bargain a little.
The guy who is the manager there, his wife has the 4th gen TL so he knows TLs.
