AV6 6MT vs 06 SI & Eclipse GST

After dropping some friends at the bar, I decided to go on a ride. As I turn around at a light, I see HIDs behind me making the same U-turn. I'm cruising along when I see the lights come up fast, at this point I knew it was a Civic SI. As he is coming up I punch it, and he passes and there is a GST behind him too. I get behind them (all 3 of us in the same lane) and they go again. So I punch it and immediately start pulling on the GST, pretty bad. He was about 2 cars in front and I ended up passing him and putting 2 cars on him, while pulling on the SI.

Well, the GST gets off so it's me and the SI. We had about 5 solid runs, he didn't want to stop! Each time I pulled about 3-4 cars. We went from a 1st roll, 2nd roll, and 3rd roll, each ending the same way. I asked him what he had and he said "intake." Then I proceeded to say "and exhaust?" and he's like "yea, that too." Lol. He had a silencer on the exhaust and it was still pretty loud, so Idk if he had a race header but he said he didn't, so.. I've been wanting to run a modded SI for a long time

A properly driven Si can be a low 14 second car with minor bolt-ons, big cars like us can't sleep on them...

Yes I am. Do you search.

When I bought a '04 RSX-S 2 years ago, I was looking for an Si sedan...which is only 60 lbs heavier than the coupe (2894lbs). The K20Z3 produces 197 HP @ 7800 RPM and 139 lbs @ 6100 RPM. I didn't do the math, but I would guess the Civic has a better "power to weight" over our MT TL. Most of the drivers out there can't push their K20 to the limit, but once you can properly launched + agressive shifting...im sure it can give me a run for the money on the first 3 gears...

I know they are light, I just didn't know they respond so well to bolt-on mods.

^^ Yea they respond very well to mods.

That video of "ImAuthenticFTW" is a good one. Now I don't wanna sound like a "hater" cuz he's a skilled driver BUT..from what I've heard, usually cars running at Cecil County Dragway run better times and have a little higher trap. I'm not trying to take anything away from him because it's a great time, but that track usually sees better times. Maybe it's prepped really well who knows, but I'd like to run there to see what I can run.

He chirped 2nd and 3rd, that wasn't a 14.1. Something is wrong with the equipment.

In the truest sense of the word, I find it 'incredible' that a stock Civic ran a 14.1 sec ET. The Si is fairly quick (i.e.: mid-14s with a fairly good driver) but, usually requires some bolt ons and tuning to run that quick. I tend to agree with the two posts above.

I saw the video of a guy running 13.5@102MPH in a civic SI Coupe with just I/RH/E! Hard to believe but here it is!

When I had my '95 GSR (170 HP), I pulled a best of 14.38@96.01 and many 14.4X with just I/E. Good traction, good driving can make those 4 cylinders a quick car. Same for the Si and all Honda's, you just have to rev the shit out of them...cause if you don't...well the lack of torque will own you.

^^ A good launch is all you need really. If you can keep the revs up on the launch, their lack of torque doesn't matter.

Launch is very underrated here.

A 96mph car with a 1.7 60' will destroy a 100mph car with a 2.4.

I had to go on that last post but back to my point.

Any car that traps 99+mph is cabable of high 13s with a good launch. In fact, my first time hitting 12.9 was at only 103mph and a 1.68 60'.

^^ That's exactly why I'm working on my launch so I can see my goal of 13.8x on stock tires and intake/jpipe. With the cooler weather (it was 80 when I went), I think 100mph trap is there.

Launch launch launch!

Race header. But it's more than just a header, here's a picture.

The TL has the better power to weight. The 6MT TL is pushing a little over 13 lbs with each horsepower vs a little over 14 lbs per hp on the Civic, not to mention the TL has a huge torque advantage.

Cecil is where a Lexus IS350 with 267 whp went 12.8 @ 109.2 mph. I have to wonder if their equipment needs calibrating. Granted, that was in 35 degree weather, but still, no 3500+ lb IS350 with intake and exhaust should see over 105 mph, and even that's being generous.

Were you lifting the throttle on your runs? I went 99.32 on my first run with fairly conservative lift throttle shifts. I was going to stay on the gas on my second run for the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, but they shut down the quarter. I think I could've broken 100 fairly easily. Definitely lift it for the 1-2 shift unless you're running sticky rubber.

Yea I lifted the throttle when I shifted. I could easily trap 100 in cooler weather, it was 80 degrees when I ran.
