Automatic Windows

Hey guys,

i was just wondering why only the two front windows have the automatic up/down feature. and has anyone thought of doing a mod that would make both rear windows automatic? is it as simple as swapping out the buttons with the automatic buttons found on both front driver side and passenger side doors?

thanks again guys, this forum is the best.

you need some kind of timed relay, that will run power to the windows, until they close, usually you can buy a box that you can wire that can automate the process. DEI makes it........

honostly tho, do you need that? in the back as well?

Part of the reason for not having it in the back is probably something to do with a safety precaution since it's more likely that kids will sit back there.

The TL is the first car I've had that has the auto up/down on the passenger's window—my previous cars with power windows had it on the driver's side only.

If its a safety precaution, then why do other cars have them. The RL has auto windows on all of its windows. The answer to why the TL doesnt have auto windows on all windows is because of cutting cost.

There really isn't an issue on safety. The auto up windows all have pinch protection built in. Stick your arm in (it is very unnerving to do) up near the top of the window frame. The window will go up, hit your arm and then go back down a little bit. It doesn't hurt.

Try it...if you dare.

Is there a reason that you would need all of the windows to be auto? I can see on the drivers side, since you don't want to have to play with the windows when you are driving, but the rest seem to be redundant.

I'd like to be able to do this as well. It's a pain that when you want to open all the windows, even though the front two have auto, you still need to sit there and hold the button down for the rear ones. Same with closing them. When you park the car, you still need to sit there and hold the buttons for the rear ones.

I think I'm going to try looking at the service manual/avail parts.

It would be nice......I hate holding the back buttons down when I park. I just like hitting the front two then getting out of the car. They will keep going up even after you remove the key and open the door.

Do you guys know about the auto window up/down with the FOB (remote)?

To open all windows and sunroof when the car is locked, just press and hold the unlock button on the FOB! You can actually control how far the windows roll down by the amount of time you are pressing down on the unlock button.

To close all the windows after parking, just step out of the car. Close your door. Stick the key in and turn counterclockwise (?) once to lock, then counterclockwise again and hold to roll up all open windows and sunroof.

Now this is the reason why I haven't done the door shave mod. Enjoy!

Yes I do, but this takes just as long as holding the buttons down. I'd like one hit and that's it.

I would do it if we had a link to know where to buy the box someone mentioned for the relay. I thought you would just have to switch the two controls on the drivers door because if you feel the little bump in the front two window controls when you put them up/down ... if feels like theres a little lump in the actualy button that sticks for a little bit until the windows are fully down/up.

Hi there, just FYI. I took my 04 TL to the dealer because one of my windows was not "Auto" rolling up. They said they came out with new relays.

Just FYI for those who might be having trouble with that feature.

The window control switches for the front are different than those for the rear. If you purchase two new auto switches and install them in place of the standard ones you will have all auto windows. The only difference between these switches is the "hold" feature. (in other words the magic is in the switch.

If you don't believe it will work here's what you can do to verify that it works.
disconnect the connector from one of the front swithes and from one of the rear switches, interchange the connectors and voila', the rear window is now auto up and down.

This whole thread is kinda funny to me -- I just retired my '94 Civic and it had all manual doors and windows -- ya, know, like crank to roll the window up and down. Now, let me tell you, it was a challenge to roll the passenger side window when driving on the freeway, but I managed. Now all you young whippersnappers are complaining of the time burden (2-3 secs?) it takes to open or close a window! (Did I mention how long it took to walk to school in 5 feet of snow when I was a kid?)

I'm not quite used to the auto feature yet -- I've often tried to just open the window a bit, and it goes all the way down. It's kind of annoying to me.

This reminds me of another issue related to doors -- I'll start a new post for it...

if you tap it down lightly it will only go down as long as you hold it. If you click it all the way, it will auto down.

I usually put my windows all down. It would be nice to have an easy way to auto up everything.

The auto down feature is cruicial when it comes to tolls, when you're juggling money, driving, etc
